Not So Magical

Kym often say that flowers are magical, but I don't think the pink hyacinth got that message. Oh, well, I guess a spindly hyacinth with only 10 little flowers is better than no hyacinth at all. I hope the purple one can do a little better. And if not, I should be seeing magical hyacinths coming up outdoors soon(ish). I hope this weekend brings some small signs of spring to your kitchen or neighborhood.

  1. I think your pink hyacinth is showing us that we're all perfect in our imperfectness. Or something like that. Have a magical weekend!

  2. Hyacinths can be so funny. I've had some like that in my garden that in prior years have been so full! Maybe it is just a little tired. Have a wonderful weekend!!

  3. Our hyacinths sometimes do that. I just figured I was a bad gardener because I didn't know what to do for them. But I guess any flowers are better than no flowers at all!

  4. Your pink hyacinth is a perfect example of why I don't plant hyacinths in my garden (despite my love for them). After a year (or maybe 2) years of full bloom, my hyacinth bulbs end up spindly like that! (I figure that - like tulips - hyacinth bulbs lose their oomph after a big flourish???) (But I really have no idea.) Oh, well. Even a disappointing bloom is better than no bloom at this point in the season. XO

  5. I am with Kym on the hyacinth dilemma - year one they are showy and full of themselves after that they are just sort of a poor excuse of a hyacinth.

    Have a good weekend!

  6. I agree with everyone above. Hyacinths smell so fabulous, and they look so beautiful the first year or two, and then they seem to give up. But I do love them. I hope you see some spring in your yard soon. I hope those snow drops surprise you and are up soon. Have a great weekend.

  7. I do love that window area though! We've had some sad hyacinths through the years as well. I think I like the way Carole thinks!

  8. Yes, perfectly imperfect! I often think that should be my motto! My kitchen counter is too full of junk to have room for plants, but I see shoots in my front garden and I'm hopeful I'll see snowdrops and/or crocus soon!

  9. But the hyacinths still smell so wonderful, spindly or not. I bought some from the grocery store and have left them to sit on the front porch because, 1) the cold will keep them from 'bolting' too soon, 2) the aroma can be overwhelming in the house, 3) the look nice as we come up the steps. :)

    1. I wouldn't be so critical of the poor thing if it had some of that lovely hyacinth scent, but there isn't any! Oh, well, I guess it's still a little bit magical.

  10. I think your disappointment stems from your expectations. I see PINK flowers on green - alive and growing - stalks. I do see magic! (and oh my, if they smell like hyacinths - who cares what they look like?!)

  11. I see maybe a little bit of magic in those pastel hyacinths. Spring colors on the heels of today's snow is a thing of wonder to one who finds growing bulbs indoors challenging.
