I went through my jewelry box last weekend and was very happy to find this gift from my father that I had completely forgotten about.
My father was an impatient driver, and I clearly remember him yelling at drivers to go faster throughout much of my childhood. He had a special saying for this: "Put a nickel in and let the buffalo push it!" Like I mentioned on Monday, he's been gone for a year, so it was especially nice to find this.
I did smile and think of him, and that's a special gift in itself.
P.S. There is a buffalo on the other side of this nickel; I was just a little teary-eyed and took a picture of the wrong side!

ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful story--I think that is an excellent idea of writing a note to you like that-it is great connect with your Dad all over again. I think I should do that with little things like that now with my kids' name on an envelope--you never know when your days will be done so it would be a neat way to be ready in some small way....
ReplyDeleteWhat a timely - and wonderful - discovery! I love that he "wrote" the words on a typewriter. I wish my dad had embraced that - but he was always a ball point pen guy ... which makes much of his "wisdom" illegible (my girls are gonna have the same problem with me).
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely find, Bonny, and I bet that nickel is worth some money as well as being a priceless keepsake. I ran across my dad's business card with all of my mother's sizes written on the back of it not long ago. It made me cry, but it was a good cry.

ReplyDeleteI love this story of your father. What a wonderful find when you're thinking of him. Sounds like something my dad would saw (in addition to a swear word or two). I love the coins of old and when I come across one (rarely now) I set it aside to study and remember the past.
