I'm happy to join Kat and fellow Unravelers for Unraveled Wednesday, with another photo of the current Hitchhiker in progress.
I've knit 10 more teeth over the last week, but I've still got a ways to go. I better get moving because the cherry trees will be blooming in the park in a couple of weeks. I need to take some photos of the Hitchhiker while the trees are blooming and see if I can cause a small ruckus like last week.
I finished a pre-publication book last week, The Secret Book of Flora Lea, but it wasn't as good as I hoped. This is the second book I've read about Operation Pied Piper in WWII, where children from London were sent to the countryside to keep them safe from Hitler's bombing. This is an interesting subject to me, but this particular book's fairy tales, dual timelines, multiple romances, and preposterous ending interfered with my enjoyment. I did appreciate the suggested non-fiction readings the author added in her afterword.
But I've started several other books, including Hang the Moon and most notably, The Covenant of Water. I haven't had a lot of time to just sit and read, but I'm expecting this one to be simply wonderful given how much I enjoyed the author's previous book, Cutting for Stone.

Your Hitchhiker is just so soothing to me Bonny. It looks wonderful! Your review of The Secret Book of Flora Lea is disappointing - when you mentioned the book the other week, I looked at it on Amazon and it really looked good. Oh well. I'm finishing up Pi Sock #2 and reading "Unraveling" by Peggy Orenstein. Finding both to be enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteYes, please hurry up and finish that Hitchhiker so we can hear all about the disturbance you cause when you try to photograph it! ;-) I've been busy reading hardback books handed down from my mother this past week (she has a Kindle but prefers to read on paper; I get it). I just started No Two Persons after Kat raved about it on our RWU Zoom, and maybe I'll manage to finish it before it's time to go home! I'm still plugging away at my sweater, and I'm looking forward to getting back to my Love Note when we return.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of "creating a ruckus" while photographing knitwear! I say Ruckus On! (and I do believe that Hitchhiker will perfectly adorn blooming trees!!)
ReplyDeleteHowever, I want to just bask in the glorious writing of Dr. Varghese... and perhaps hope that his patients are all suddenly less sick so our wait between books won't be as long as this one!
I hope you cause the BEST kind of ruckus when you photograph your Hitchhiker (even if it's still in progress) at the park amidst the blooming cherry trees! It's a lovely, spring-y version, by the way. I love the eyelets and the pastels. I, too, am reading Covenant of Water. And will likely be doing so for quite a while! (Thankfully, it's really, really good!) XO

ReplyDeleteI hope you have wonderful fun photographing your spring Hitchhiker and creating a rukus among the cherry blossoms! I look forward to reading The Covenant of Water. I'm busy knitting a baby hat for a baby shower on Sunday, I'm at the halfway point so should finish in plenty of time!
ReplyDeleteI've managed to make several mistakes today so I think I've tinked back more than I've knit on the Hitchhhiker. I will take some photos when the ornamental cherries are in bloom even if I'm not finished, and see how the middle schoolers and people in the park react!

That hitchhiker looks as soft as Spring. It's so pretty. I hope you can inspire more conversation in the park. Recently I've focused my knitting on the purple shawl and socks. I am just about ready to begin the edging on that shawl. When it's finished I'll get back to the hitchhiker because I'd like to wear it this Spring.
