Sometimes Monday ...

... is a day to tell your husband to leave the wall alone!

So this really happened on Sunday. I saw a deer tick on John's back, and when I tried to remove it, it was well bit in. I did get it out, but he wasn't sure whether it was from when he was in the woods last Monday or on Friday. Either way, he still had a deer tick bite with the tick attached for at least 48 hours. He didn't feel like waiting for a dr. appointment on Monday, so I took him to a local urgent care.

He hadn't been there in several years and they had redone the waiting area. This is a pillar covered in small bits of stone that aren't exactly flush; they almost look like they would fall out if you bumped them the wrong way. John felt it necessary to stick his pen knife blade in and report to me that the stones were an inch deep and well-seated. I just kept knitting and pretended I didn't know who the wacko was sticking his penknife in the wall.

I used to take the kids there when they were young and one or both of them inevitably got strep throat on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. I often had to tell them to behave in the waiting room (even though none of us are good at waiting). I didn't know I would have to admonish John in the same way. But he's got three weeks' worth of doxycycline now, so I guess it was worth it.

I hope you had a good weekend and your Monday is off to a good start!

  1. Those damn ticks!! Glad you took him to urgent care so he could get the antibiotic immediately. What a funny story (tick nonsense aside). And Fletch pulled a tick (regular, dog tick) off Mabel the other night. Hope John feels ok and does not have symptoms!

  2. I feel like I'm going to see this on one of those insurance commercials where the people are turning into their parents! I hope that the folks at urgent care got him well taken care of us and didn't mind his impromptu inspection too much.

  3. Husbands. Sometimes y'gotta put your head down and just pretend they aren't with you . . . ;-) I'm so sorry about the tick (it seems far too early in the season for ticks, but there you go), but so glad he was able to begin his treatment sooner than later. Here's a quick recovery for John -- so he can get back to being just a former-scientist-now-curious-retiree, regularly driving his wife to the edge in public. XO

  5. Oh boy! Grr ticks, yep... I have been on Tick Inspection Duty here as well! (No sightings yet...) But I love that you captured for posterity John's inquisitive nature. Boys will be boys... perhaps confiscating his pen knife for any future visits might help! But I do so hope that John has no symptoms and is back to his normal puttering! XO

  6. I despise ticks and have pulled them off of Dale many times. Luckily, his doctor knows his outdoor lifestyle and automatically puts him on a round of antibiotics without making him come in for an appointment. In other words, he doesn't get the opportunity to embarrass me in the waiting room! LOL

  9. So sorry about the tick! It's good he is on early treatment. I had to laugh about his investigation into the wall because my father would have done the same thing to the embarassment of my mother!

  10. Laughing out loud! about the penknife in the wall, not the tick! yikes! (and thankful y'all went for meds early rather than later)

  11. Part of this post makes me smile. That would be your husband sticking his penknife in the wall, you continuing to knit on, and your memories of admonishing your boys. I think most mother's can relate. But that tick bite - darn. I'm glad he got the meds ASAP.
