Unraveled Wednesday

Joining Kat and friends for Unraveled Wednesday. I'm still working on my second sock blank Hitchhiker, and it's almost there ...

The colors remind me John Deere tractors, but they also blend in pretty well with the corn.

I'm still reading Snowball in a Blizzard, but have also recently started Living Proof. This is a collection of essays from mathematicians about the struggles they experienced along their mathematical journeys. So far the main points seem to be "work hard and you will succeed", but as the mother of a struggling mathematician, I'm hoping there might also be a few about what happens when you work hard but don't succeed.

I also spent some time browsing Overdrive last night and borrowed a short story collection called If I Loved You I Would Tell You This. When I added it to goodreads, it turns out I read it four years ago. I'm enjoying the quick read of short stories and have found several of them intriguing, so I think I'll stick with the reread (especially because I don't remember any of them)!

What are you making and reading this week?

  1. Another gorgeous Hitchhiker bonny! I love the green and yellow and it really does match your corn wonderfully! Isn't it funny how you can read a book and remember nothing about it? It always amazes me when that happens to me.

  2. Your Hitchhiker does rather look like it grew in your garden!

I should probably reread some books I know I've read in the past but have no memory of. Isn't it funny how that happens?

  3. I watched a movie this weekend and in the last 5 minutes I realized I had watched it already! I do that with books too.

  4. Your hitchhiker is looking good and it does match the corn! I'm reading my way through Louise Penny's Three Pines series and just started The Nature of the Beast. I haven't knit for almost a month, but am back at it and am on the last section of a 2nd Close To You wrap.

  6. Love your Hitchhiker!

If a book is good enough to read TWICE, it's a GOOOOOOOD book!

  9. I just gave up trying to read Inland. I am doing that more and more lately. I am old and life is too short to read books that you can't get into. So, I started A Better Man, and I am enjoying it very much, but then again, I am a Louise Penny fan. Your hitchhiker is looking very good, Bonny! By the way, I often pick up books at the library and then realize once I start reading them that I have read them previously. At least our tastes are consistent! I hope you enjoyed your break.

  11. Hiya! Your Hitchhiker definitely goes with the corn!! You're getting close. I have a pretty good memory for things I've read & seen, but every now and then I'm caught. Rusty does it ALL.THE.TIME and has been keeping lists of those things for quite a while.

  12. I thought that was a DONE Hitchhiker and I loved it ... so whoa - kudos to you for the patience to knit on til the end of the skien! ...on the reading front, we definitely need more stories about folks trying and struggling ... it's certainly not the story we like to tell, but it is for sure a common one. (p.s. glad you're back - hope you found some rest and restoration on your break).

  15. Your hitchhiker is looking good. It looks like summer to me. Like you I browse Overdrive, especially for audiobooks available. I happened onto The Other Alcott and am enjoying the story about the youngest Alcott sister May who struggled so hard to study art. It isn't the best book I've ever listened to but It was intriguing to consider another point of view about the Alcott family. The narrator was very good which helps.
