Unraveled Wednesday

Joining Kat and friends for Unraveled Wednesday, and this week is more of the same.

It's still a Hitchhiker, still dark green, and since you've already seen the previous two iterations of this, I'll spare you any more repetitive photos. I did try to read while I knit on this, but I was unsuccessful, just like previous attempts. It required the unraveling of four rows when I accidentally split the plies of the yarn, so knitting and reading will have to remain separate activities for me.

I tried to read Just Mercy in real book form, but the pages kept flipping, so then I attempted Snowball In a Blizzard on Kindle without much luck either. Both are good books, but both of them need and deserve attention and mine was too divided.

It seems to me that one of the great luxuries of life at this point is to do one thing at a time. One thing to which you give yourself wholeheartedly, uni-tasking.
~ Michael Pollan

And if Michael Pollan says it, I'm willing to believe it.

What are you making and reading this week?

  1. I guess it really is a bit of a luxury to do one thing at a time -- and sadly the only time I seem to be able to do that is when I'm at work or sleeping!

  2. I could not read much with the hitchhiker pattern, in fear I would miss an important row! Lovely green :)

  3. I too, set my knitting aside this week to focus on an incredibly good book! And, yes... it is such a lovely thing to do - uni-tasking!

  4. I have been actively trying to not multi-task a lot of the time. And I have learned that multi-tasking is overrated.

  5. I have never mastered the reading-while-knitting thing. (I have a friend here in town that reads-while-knitting all the time; I just don't know how she does it!) I am able to listen to books while reading, though, so I do that from time to time. I love the green of your Hitchhiker! xo

  6. Great quote from Michael Pollan! Uni-tasking - we should all do more of that. And, for the record, I doubt that I could read and knit at the same time (haven't tried it), and I don't enjoy audio books, but I do love silence while knitting:)...or conversation with a friend:)

  7. I have no desire to read and knit at the same time. I enjoy both activities on their own and find them to be very relaxing! The Michael Pollan quote is great!

    1. Sometimes I wish I didn't have to make a choice between reading and knitting. That's why I love audio books when they're available, but that's not always the case. I think most things that Michael Pollan says are pretty darn good!

  8. Love the Pollan quote. I'm a multi tasker usually but not while knitting.

    1. I would bet that most women need to multitask in at least some areas of their lives, but can hopefully enjoy the "fun stuff" without dividing their attention!

  9. I can read and knit if it's just going round and round like a sock leg or something similar. But I also agree that undivided attention to a project, whether it's knitting or reading or something else, is pretty awesome.

  10. I'm with Michael...I have a hard enough time getting one thing done right! :-) I'm 8 rows from a finished baby blanket...yahooooo! And truly though...I would give my right arm (I'm a lefty!) to be able to read and knit at the same time!

  11. I can barely handle audio books and knitting. I end up paying better attention to one over the other (usually the book). I'm not a good multitasker.

  12. I am a firm believer in not doing too many things at once. That said I love listening to an audio book and knitting. Usually I can manage that unless I am at a crucial point in knitting and need to read the pesky "at the same time" directions. Once I'm familiar with a pattern I'm good to knit and listen. I don't read and knit at the same time though. I have three books going - Arctic Dreams, Late Migrations, and listening to the latest Louise Penny, A Better Man. This last book on overdrive is a whole lot of luck. I put my library request in quite awhile ago and so it showed up. Timing must have been good.
