Unraveled Wednesday

Joining Kat and friends for Unraveled Wednesday, while I continue to unravel and knit on my bumpy Hitchhiker with crinkly ramen yarn.

I'm up to 25 teeth, and I've even knitting slightly faster now. I originally cast on with some Zings needles, but they had a rough connector that was snagging the yarn, so I switched to my favorite Chiaogoo Lace needles. No more snagging and I find I'm knitting faster. The Chiaogoo needles are smooth stainless steel instead of having tiny grooves like the Zings, so at least in my hands, knitting slides more easily and is faster.

I finished Normal People and a book of poetry, Good Bones. I'm still reading Inland, and stumbled upon a new-to-me novel, The Last Thing You Surrender by Leonard Pitts, Jr. I'm surprised that I had never heard of the book or the author before, but it tells the neglected story of how African-Americans experienced the Second World War, at home and on the front lines. I can hardly stop listening.

What are you making and reading this week?

  1. Chiaogoo needles are the BEST! I love mine. I just started knitting again on Mailing's Hitchhiker last night, but I think you are now ahead of me (but it's not a race - lol). It felt good to pick it up again after more than a week away from it. I'm loving the yellow and green in yours - it is just like John Deere!

  2. That's looking very Green Bay Packers right now - be careful Vicki doesn't try to steal it from you!

  3. I'm going to disagree with Carole -- I see freshly bloomed daffodils in your sock blank!

  4. I see spring! The texture of the finished fabric looks woven and I like its not-knitted look. Needles make or break a projects process. Good thing you had a better set of needles to use. Daffodils! Yes!

  5. I haven't been knitting much or reading anything too exciting, but I have been busy working on my garden and helping my sister prepare for my nephew's graduation open house on Saturday. After that, I have two weeks to work on the final preparation for our church's summer celebration and I am beyond happy that it is my last year being in charge of this event! I'm looking forward to some relaxation and more time for knitting in June!

    1. It feels good to get out in the garden, but that does cut down on knitting and reading time. You sound quite busy, so I'm sending congratulations to your nephew and sending you good wishes for more time for yourself in June!

  6. Clearly, Hitchhiker has us all in its grip!!!!

I love the Zings double points, but I've heard the circulars have issues. I'm a ChiaGoo fan as well.

  7. I finished a wee pair of socks for Malina (now she & Ginny have matching socks), am sewing some Alabama Chanin stuff, am re-listening to Lincoln in the Bardo (having just seen David Sedaris), and am almost finished reading My Brilliant Friend.

  8. I love the green and yellow of your yarn, Bonny. Cool and hot at the same time, in a good way. I had to put down The Animals when it began to seem so sad to me, but I have picked it back up, and I have enjoyed it, even with the sadness. It is so well written! I read a couple of other books in the interim. Nothing worth recommending. I don't know about the Chiaogoo needles; I will have to check them out.

  10. I have never tried ChiaGoo needles but maybe I will. My shoulder likes smooth sailing of stitches across needles. I'm enjoying that bright hitchhiker made from ramen noodle yarn. I'm guessing your son will love it - I think I remember you are knitting it for him? Our local paper runs Pitts' syndicated column on the editorial page and I find him incredibly wise. If this is the same Leonard Pitts. I've not heard of that book either. It sounds like a good read.
