Unraveled Wednesday: 8/24/22

I'm happily joining Kat and fellow Unravelers for Unraveled Wednesday,

now that I'm once again knitting a Hitchhiker. I wanted to start a new one but decided that I should really finish this one that was about 30% done. I'm at 36 teeth and I've got another small ball of yarn to go before I call this one done. I already have a similar one, so I think this might be a Christmas present.

It seems like I'm always dreaming of my next Hitchhiker while I'm knitting the current one, and this is no different. I really enjoyed the gradient ones that I've knit, so if I can get to NJ Sheep and Wool in two and a half weeks, I may look for some gradient yarn that says it wants to come home with me. I'd also welcome the chance to meet up with Dee and Vera, so fingers crossed I can make it happen.

I'm suffering from a bit of a book hangover after finishing Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, so I'm listening to Iona Iverson's Rules for Commuting. It's enjoyable so far, but it's not what I would classify as an epic read. I have some exciting books on hold, so I'm sure another one will come along (soon, I hope)!

What are you making and reading this week?

  1. What a beautiful Hitchhiker Bonny! Love all the colors in it (rainbow!). Fingers and toes crossed that you will be able to meet up with Dee and me in a couple of weeks! Of course, I'm knitting on a sock and am now reading Sorrow and bliss (but am bored with it).

  2. I do so love that hitchhiker, Bonny! That yarn is just perfect for it! I just got approved for Kevin Wilson's Netgalley book! So as soon as I finish Lucy by the Sea, I am gonna settle in with that! :)

  3. I love the colors in this Hitchhiker but always enjoy the ones you knit in gradients. Do you have a designated Hitchhiker storage space?

I just started rereading Sorrow and Bliss last night in preparation for our next Read With Us discussion. I'm interested to see if it's a different experience reading it with my eyes rather than my ears.

  4. I did cast on a Hitchhiker, but the yarn didn't work well with the pattern. The yarn has slubs and they just looked way too slubby. Soooooooooooooo...socks it is!

  5. That is such a gorgeous Hitchhiker, Bonny. I love the colors; they go with anything and everything! (Plus, they're just so happy.) Book hangovers are hard to get past sometimes . . . I hope yours passes quickly! XO

  6. Your Hitchhiker is beautiful and the colors are perfect for Fall & Winter! I have a couple of small knitting projects on the needles, a scarf and an hat, both in shades of gray. Seeing your Hitchhiker makes me want to move on to something more colorful!
I'm re-reading The Shell Seekers, I last read it over 30 years ago around the time it was first published. I don't remember too many details but I do remember the feelings of joy and comfort this book brings.

    1. I've always thought I should make a pale grey or off-white Hitchhiker so it would go with everything! Penelope Keeling and Rosamunde Pilcher are wonderful for engendering feelings of comfort and joy!

  7. Another beautiful HH, and I am glad you are back to comfort knitting, Bonny. I am not at all interested in gaming, but you are so positive about Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow I may have to put it on hold at the library. Casting on for a wool vest for me in anticipation of cold weather coming sooner than I think. I think a pale gray HH would be lovely, but I am a gray person. I can't picture you in gray!

  8. I just marked Tomorrow, Tomorrow, and Tomorrow as "want to read" in Goodreads. It sounds great! I enjoyed Iona Iverson; you are right, not an epic read, but an enjoyable one.

  10. I really do love seeing how much you enjoy knitting those Hitchhikers! Best wishes for making it to NJ Sheep and Wool - mostly to meet up with Vera and Dee ... and of course a good gradient would be icing on the cake!
