Weekending

My weekend included a lot of driving, a lot of walking through the woods, packing and unpacking Justin's stuff, and more driving down to MD.

We left very early on Saturday morning to head to NY and Justin's ranch. We drove up with John's truck so we could help Justin pack and bring the last of his things back to NJ. I'm not sure how he accumulated so much stuff, but it's a good thing we had John's truck to pack it in, in addition to Justin's own truck.

We also went shed antler hunting. That's always a fun activity, kind of like a treasure hunt in the woods. It was about 28 degrees, windy and snowing, so I quit after half a day and after I had found three. I enjoy finding the small ones, but Justin was searching for some from the bigger bucks. We had planned to come home Saturday night but ended up staying at the ranch so John and Justin could look some more on Sunday morning. We packed up John's truck with half of Justin's stuff, drove to NJ and unloaded it, then packed up our own stuff and drove to MD Sunday evening.

This is pretty much what we were looking for in the woods.

See it now?

How about now?

Ta-Da!

Eight hours in the car in two days was a bit much, but I'm glad we could help Justin and find a few shed antlers. Maybe he'll even have the mess of totes, garbage bags full of clothes, and tanned furs in the dining room all sorted out, organized, and stored by the time we head back to NJ on Friday. I can hope!

  1. I would be useless hunting for shed antlers -- I didn't see it until you got really close! What does he do with the antlers when he finds them?

  2. I have never gone shed antler hunting! I can see that I have been missing out on one of the greater challenges of life! Have they just shed recently? Now I am off to see what the internet holds for this fascinating stage in the life of a deer!

  3. I have never gone hunting for shed antlers! (Although Tom finds them sometimes in the woods - but that's more accidental than intentional.) I wish we were up north at this time of year -- and I'd try to find some myself. I'll bet it takes a bit of practice to discover just what to look for! (And it is amazing how much . . . stuff . . . we all amass as we just live our lives.) XO

  4. You're a traveling woman, Bonny! Sounds like a very busy weekend. I didn't see the antler until you got really close, so I guess I would need a lot of practice to find shed antlers. I hope your house is all straightened out by the time you get back home, and that you have a quiet week. Stay safe.

  5. What a treasure hunt! I would enjoy hunting for shed antlers (but I'm betting I wouldn't be that great at it - lol). Probably takes practice to "see" them. Sorry about all the driving - that would kill me!

  6. I love finding sheds! We have quite a few on display in our home, I think they are so graceful and artistic.

  8. I read this as 'antlers in a shed' and was confused for quite a wile.

    1. If only the deer would shed their antlers within the confines of a shed they would be a lot easier to find!

    1. Thanks, Debbie! I'm doing lots of relaxing laundry today, but later this week I have to start doing our completely un-relaxing taxes!

  11. What will you use the shed antlers for? Kurious Kats want to know. (I am catching up on blogs. Can you tell?)

  12. Hope is good. All the packing and driving in one weekend must have been a little exhausting - or a lot. What we won't do for our children. I bet Justin was grateful for your help.

  13. You have good eyes! I didn't see a thing until you uncovered enough of it for anyone to see! Car travel IS exhausting. I hope you come home to find Justin has put away all that stuff!
