Three (or more) on Thursday

I'm joining Carole and friends for Three on Thursday. Today I've got three random good things, and one request.
First, the good things.

Go, Norway!

At least one day this week we have had blue skies, puffy clouds, and a good day for drying laundry on the line. I had the pleasure of sleeping on sweet-smelling sheets dried outdoors!

My next-door neighbor was running wind sprints back and forth on the sidewalk in front of my house. I had fun cheering him on from the porch each time he passed.

I found this. National Knitting Eve is a Norwegian program showing twelve hours of Norway's participation in an international sheep-to-jumper competition. I've only watched about 30 minutes, but it's entertaining and the narration is in English. It's compelling to watch!

Now my request. In your comment, please let me know at least one good thing that has happened, or that you've seen, done, or heard about recently. Feel free to list more than one if you've got 'em! I think we're all in need of hearing about as many good things as possible, so have at it!

Be sure to visit Carole for more Three on Thursday thoughts.

  1. Oh I'm envious of your sheets dried on the line! I sleep so well when I'm lying on sun and wind dried sheets. I think I heard of National Knitting Eve but then forgot all about it! I may need to check that out while I knit on a new pair of socks!

The good thing I learned is that my job is not impacted (so far). 60% of my parent company's business is shut down and the company is depending on us (my company) for revenue, etc. Upper management in my company will be taking a 90 day pay cut! There will be some lay-offs and furloughs (no pay, but full benefits continued). My boss called me yesterday afternoon after the memo came out to let me know that I am not being impacted by this. That is VERY good news!

  2. What a fantastic request. Here's one: In our Kroger store a week ago Saturday, a customer bought Starbucks for every employee working in the store that morning as a thank-you for all their hard work to keep shelves stocked as much as possible.
Can't wait to read the rest of these, Bonny!

    1. That's a great one! I've viewed making a trip to the grocery store kind of like a trek through Mordor, but this idea gives me some ideas of my own to thank those grocery store heroes. Thanks for sharing!

  3. Remember the sign I posted this past Sunday that someone in my neighborhood had on a tree in front of their house? What I didn't mention is that on their front steps, they also had a container of "doggie doo-doo" bags for anyone to take as well as one of those flyers with the tear-off tabs that you often see for research studies or people offering lessons or tutoring services -- but each tab had a happy thought on it.

  4. I have seen so much good. Hershey Medical Center staff came to work yesterday to find inspirational notes written in chalk on the sidewalks at all entrances. Several local breweries/distilleries converted their distilleries to making hand sanitizer that they are giving away free to local first responders and hospitals. Local pizza place has been feeding a local grocery store staff. The same pizza place and another local restaurant are giving sandwiches and pizza away for free once a week.So many gyms are offering free online classes. Let's hope society remembers the good coming out of this mess.

  5. What a great idea, Bonny! :) Here's my good thing: My neighborhood is always full of walkers, and it's no different right now. What IS different, though, is the way EVERY walker is enthusiastically greeting every other walker. It is heartening to see people waving and smiling and asking "how are you doing?" -- all from an appropriate social distance, of course. XO

  6. These are very good things! My extra amazing good thing this week was my Tuesday Night Knit Group met via Zoom - we laughed and chatted and we are planning on a repeat next Tuesday with a beverage! It was a very good reminder how important we are to each other... the best part were the stories we shared about our "trial retirement" with our respective spouses! I.can't.even. LOL

  7. What a great idea, Bonny! Let's see, 3 of my neighbors emailed me to see if we were OK. I don't know my neighbors well, this is a neighborhood that is becoming much "younger", and we are probably the oldest couple still here from the old guard. It appears that they had talked among themselves about who might need help, and they contacted me to see if I needed help in my situation. I was very touched! Kindness is always a wonderful thing. While I don't need anything, I now have people to ask for help if I need it. Our mayor voluntarily put a stay-at-home order in place early on in this epidemic for my city, which I found very encouraging. He's trying to protect his city, and he is trying to take care of the poor and disenfranchised by providing services and free meals to those who need it. The instructors at my community gym are doing videos from their living rooms to keep us moving and healthy and providing them for free on FB. Again, very kind and necessary for me. I need to exercise to keep my spirits up. While I hate the reason for the lack of traffic, it has been lovely to have more quiet and fresher air. Reminds me of when I was a kid. Lots of good things are happening, but it is difficult to focus on them at times. Thanks for asking all of us to do that, Bonny, and I am jealous of your line-dried sheets!

  8. My good thing is the Zoom meeting. My cousins have arranged one for Sunday (after the knitting one at my request!) and that would never have happened if it wasn't for our current situation! It will be great to catch up. Also...I'm the only cousin without a sister so they are extra special for including me!

  9. I love reading everyone's good things even as I struggle today to come up with something to share. Here's something, though. Last night Dale and I watched old super 8 movies from his childhood. They don't have sound, of course, but we laughed and found some joy in watching them.

  10. Yesterday was the first sunny day we've had in weeks. I went on a long walk on the trails of the nearby university. I saw one family fishing in the pond, another family having a game of kickball, and many people out for a walk. Everyone kept distance, but waved as I passed. It seems like such simple things, but I went home with such a good feeling.

    1. Hooray for a sunny day filled with good things! Fishing, kickball, and people out walking are all such normal pursuits, but I treasure any sense of normality nowadays. I'm glad you were able to get out and then head home feeling good, and I thank you for sharing, Debbie!

  11. I am sure your neighbor was happy for the encouragement as he ran wind sprints. I know I would be!

Here is one good thing I did today: I went for a trail run in the woods on a beautiful, warm spring day with my husband. We tried a trail we had never run on before and it passed a little farmette. One of the critters in the yard, along with the chickens and goats, was a pure white peacock with his tail feathers on full display! What an amazing sight!

  12. Heard on a local radio show..."we're one day closer to normal!"

    1. I have been busy wondering how long this might go on, but this is a much more positive way to look at the situation. Thanks for sharing this good thing, Kathleen!

  13. I always love seeing a post from you pop up in my feed! One Good Thing - when I went to the food pantry yesterday to pick up the boxes to deliver to three senior ladies who are homebound, their boxes were FULL (even toilet paper) AND there were extra bags of fresh fruit AND bread/cookies. I didn't get to deliver the boxes in person (their building isn't allowing visitors) but it felt good to leave them in good hands.

  14. Spring flowers, always a sign of hope for me.

  15. Also, as the weather has been so nice, I've been sitting on my porch knitting and it is amazing to see all the neighbors passing by with a wave and word. :)

    1. Spring flowers, nice weather, knitting on the porch, and connecting with neighbors while still at a safe distance are all wonderful! Thanks for sharing, Helen!

  16. I hear from my kids most days (yay). My spring bulbs are blooming, my husband and I walk on nice days. My menu planning is really good now that I am being forced to plan.

  17. Even though the cherry blossom festival in DC has been curtailed , it’s fun to walk through the neighborhood and see cherry blossoms on trees that line the sidewalks! That’s been a delight! A second: Your invite for us to focus on/share “good things!” Merci!

  18. Good things: While walking in my neighborhood (regular exercise for me) I have seen more people out walking in the last two weeks than I've seen in the last ten years. Families are out walking or biking together. Jonah and I FaceTime everyday while my daughter and the two older brothers work on school work.

  19. Since we've returned to winter the last two days the nature trail near my home has been emptied of walkers (they must be fair weather only people) and Mylo and I have seem very few people. It's been a joy to be outdoors. I am so envious of your line dried sheets (one of my very favorite things!). I have no room for lines. My neighbors have been texting each other to see if anyone needs groceries or other errands run. Some people I rarely see but it's nice to know we're here for each other.
