A Welcome Diversion

Hi, I'm Bonny and I like to play games. Board games like Monopoly or Scrabble are wonderful, but I don't often have someone to play with. Justin will play with me, and now that we're both in the same location for the foreseeable future, I'm betting that we may be playing Scrabble tonight.

Since I'm usually on my own when it comes to games, I turned to online games a while ago, specifically Guild Wars 2. It's one of those MMPORGs (massive multi-player online role-playing games) and it was big. I created one character and my goal was to get her to Level 80. I did but it took lots of time. Once I had achieved my goal and the game kept getting more and more complex, I stopped playing. That made me a little sad because Ryan and I could play together. It was fun raiding with him and I appreciated that he let a n00b (newbie not very good player) join him.

But now there's something else and at the perfect time — the Nintendo Switch and Animal Crossing New Horizons game. I have a Gameboy DS that Ryan got me for my birthday about 10 years ago and I occasionally play Animal Crossing Wild World on it. Animal Crossing is the perfect game for me — there's no fighting, swords, or complexity, just cute animals living their daily lives in a community. I got the Switch Lite when I heard this newest version of Animal Crossing was going to be released last Friday. I eagerly downloaded it and have only played for about 10 minutes, but I can see it's going to be a welcome diversion. And the best part of all is that Ryan and I can play together once again.

I still have laundry, cooking, grocery shopping, some work (most of that is on hold), reading, knitting, and taxes to do, but during my leisure time, you will most likely find me playing Animal Crossing unless Justin wants to play Monopoly (which I also have on my Switch!)

  1. Tell me more about the Nintendo Switch, please! I was looking at those while we were on vacation with the family in February. We've had a Wii for a long time but it stopped working and I'd love to replace it with something new and portable.

  2. Erin was just telling me about how PERFECT Animal Crossing is right now! I am So Bad at video games (and I have tried many times. . . ) I'm so glad you and Ryan have this game to share! Have fun, Bonny. (And I love your Guild Wars character! Erin plays that one, too. . . ) XO

  3. I've never been much into video games other than things like Tetris or Candy Crush (mainly puzzle-type things) because I'm not very coordinated and could never figure out the more complicated stuff, but cute animals sounds delightful -- and like a great diversion from current events!

  4. I love this! And, I need to check out Animal Crossing (Steve is so much better at games than me, but perhaps that is something I could "get" lol) However, a little known factoid about me... I have played Erepublik: an online, browser based, multiplayer game for more than 9 years!

  6. Time flies when you're playing games of any sort. I miss game nights with our friends where we play card games and Sorry and just be silly and have fun. I'm not much for on-line games but I cheer you on! It's wonderful you can connect to Ryan and play face to face with Justin!

  8. My older son also bought Animal Crossing this weekend and he said he thinks I would like it. I NEVER play video games but I'm game to try!

  9. I am not a video game player, but I am delighted that you have found something to keep you connected and to enjoy. During this time, it doesn't get any better than that! Here's hoping you have a good week, Bonny.

  12. I am not a gamer (online, video or IRL) but I totally relate to the community it builds - well, unless you are playing with my mother who is hands down just Too Competitive For Fun. (and woot! that you and Justin are under the same roof ... I look forward to lots of pretty food posts!)

  13. I might need this....I love games and used to play the gameboy but my personality is an addictive one. Now I have lots more free time....it might not be a bad thing to be connected to.
