Unraveled Wednesday

Joining Kat and friends for Unraveled Wednesday.

I am feeling a bit unraveled today because I have a knitting injury to my neck, shoulder, upper arm which means that I can't knit more than a row or two before I feel this deep nagging, throbbing, tingling, shooting pain in my right shoulder that gives me an intense headache and pretty much ruins my day. It might be related to knitting, or possibly my sloppy posture, too much time working at the computer keyboard, ironing for too long, or maybe picking four rows of sugar snap peas. I've been trying to treat it myself for the past four or five days, so today you only get a photo of the various gels, creams, unguents, and pain relievers I've tried instead of my Match & Move that is only four rows longer than last week. Arnica in various forms seems to be making small improvements; I'm borrowing a TENS unit from a friend tomorrow, and have a physical therapy appointment in two weeks.

I can at least read, especially since I've been listening to Coyote America and Mindfulness Meditation for Pain Relief. John thinks I might be over-reacting, but like everyone else, I hate pain that limits my daily actions. I won't mind if the physical therapist tells me to stop ironing, but I really don't want to limit my knitting. Fingers crossed (at least on my pain-free left side)!

What are you making and reading this week?

  4. Ouch! You've had so much going on and most of it (other than CO & The Loopy Ewe!!) pretty stressful which, I'm sure, is not helping the situation. I sometimes have a pain in my shoulder/arm and I know it's a combination of my arthritis, (extremely) bad posture and way too much time on the computer. It's certainly not fun. Fingers, toes and eyes crossed for you that the pain eases quickly. PT has helped me a lot and hopefully it will do the same for you.

  5. I think I have at least half of those products also. My advice - for sure go to PT.
I am knitting a teeny tiny butterfly and bumblebee with teeny tiny #1 needles while wearing glasses and sitting up straight with my shoulders back.
Reading/listening to “Circe”, about gods/goddesses and liking it.

    1. Thanks for the advice, Annette! I do hate when something messes with my knitting time (and I'm pretty sure that stress has something to do with it)!

  6. Fingers crossed! It may do you well to not knit for awhile and rest. PT will help (or has in my experience). They will likely know just which nerve is being impacted and how to gently get it to release and relax so you can continue you favorite activity! Good luck and I'm so sorry you're going through this.

  10. UGH. I am the WORST when it comes to aches and pains and injuries that AFFECT MY DAILY LIFE. (Oh, does it make me cranky.) I am so glad you're going to consult with a physical therapist. In my experience, PT WORKS. (And, yeah. I'm hoping that ironing is the culprit, and you can just . . . not do it anymore.) :-)

  13. Oh dear. I hope your neck/shoulder/arm feels better soon. A few years ago I had a frozen shoulder and it was no fun. The PT helped me with some exercises that finally brought it around. Honestly getting older is just the pits. I hope the house inspection went well.
