Wingin' It

First of all, big thanks to Mary for organizing Summer Book Bingo again; you can read all about it here and generate your own card here. In past summers I've spent lots of time making reading plans, checking my to-be-read list, filling my Summer Book Bingo squares with book possibilities, checking three libraries, placing holds on books, and reading, reading, reading. That was great, and I read lots of books that I might not have read otherwise.

This summer is a little bit different. We're looking for a house (in fact, I scheduled this post ahead of time and have been in Delaware yesterday and today), gathering documents to settle on a loan and hopefully a house, working on more documents for my father's estate, visiting Ryan in CO in a week, probably moving sometime before Sept. 1st, along with the usual stuff of my usual life. My time is limited, so this year I'm approaching Book Bingo differently. I can't imagine not reading, so I'm going to keep reading (as much as I have time for anyway) and use my card as a way to record books that I've chosen because I want to read them. I'm not going to worry overly much about squares and bingoes, just pure reading enjoyment.

I think that Ann Cleeves' Vera Stanhope series might work for at least three squares, and I'm anxious to read more of them because I enjoyed the first one. I haven't yet finished How to Change Your Mind, so that could go in "Non-fiction about science". I might give Centennial another try for "Wanted to read for more than a year"; third time's the charm! Mary has sent me a brilliant suggestion for "With a cover that matches your current WIP", and I just might buy yarn in Fort Collins that matches a book I want to read because I love the idea of matching my reading and knitting.

I'm not usually a very good wingin' it kind of person, but this new approach has been quite freeing, and I'm lovin' it!

Again and still: I'm still not receiving email notifications from blogger when people have commented. This seems to be the case for everyone on the platform, and I really hope that this is fixed soon, but it doesn't seem to be anything that I can remedy myself (except for a migration of the whole blog to wordpress which I may attempt in the near future). Please know that I do read, value, and appreciate all of your comments, and hope to be able to reply to you very soon!

  1. I think it's always a good thing to try a different approach to things from time to time. So have fun with the wingin' it thing! (I love reading all the book bingo posts -- but I am finding it so refreshing to just read what I want right now . . . without figuring out how it will fit into a bingo card. It's what I need this summer!) You've got a lot going on, Bonny. Let it flow. XO

  2. Sounds like the perfect approach for you this summer. I've made some plans for squares and others I'm going to wing depending on what books come in from Overdrive.

  4. I think that successfully buying a house counts for a bingo-coverall, just saying. And, a visit to CO to visit Ryan is the icing on the cake (double icing if you count a visit to Loopy Ewe!!) I hope you had a great weekend!

  5. You certainly are busy!! Your approach sounds perfect for the way your life is these days. Einstein's Dreams is a favorite book of mine! (and matches your Match & Move too.) Best of luck with all the house stuff!

  6. I've thought about going over to Wordpress too, but it seems like they have done away with their "free" blog offer.

  7. I don't think anyone comments on here expecting a reply, much less an instantaneous one. No worries, Bonny. As everyone else above has said, you have a LOT going on this summer, so I say maximize pleasure in the areas that you control and the heck with reading expectations. I hope your house plans come true, as I am sure that would be a chunk of worry off your plate.

  8. You've got a lot on your plate...no additional deadlines or commitments allowed! Remember...there always has to be time to just sit and relax...even for 15 minutes...with no responsibility! And yay for CO! Dan spent the weekend in Fort Collins!

  11. Moving is always a huge undertaking. I hope your trip to Delaware went well.
I love the idea of book bingo, but I'm to idiosyncratic to play. Still, looks like a great card for this year.

  13. Yes, you've got a lot going on and you're (seemingly) handling it with grace and calm. I, too, have been having a good time reading what I want and fitting it into squares. Why worry about a Bingo when so many other things are of greater importance? Good luck in Delaware. Your on-going house saga is one for the books.
