Unraveled Wednesday

Joining Kat and friends for Unraveled Wednesday.

It's the same Match & Move, just in a slightly different location (brighter, more reflective, and with a glimpse of another "interesting" hotel carpet). I've had more KWW (knitting while waiting) time, without any unraveling, so progress continues slowly but surely.

I've also had plenty of driving (thus listening) time, so I finished Autumn, and just started Winter. Autumn was so good that I decided to save Winter for a little while, and listen to the first novel in the Vera Stanhope series, The Crow Trap, on the drive down to Delaware. I'm well over halfway and Vera has only made one almost incognito appearance, but the story is quite good. There is an added bonus; it looks like the books in the Vera series might even fit easily into three squares on my Summer Book Bingo card.

Because of time constraints this summer, I think my approach to Book Bingo is going to be different than in previous years. I've always pressured myself to achieve a cover-all on my card, but I wonder why? This summer is going to be about reading when I can, looking for interesting books that might fit into squares, but with no stress about how many books I read or squares I cover. Book Bingo will be a fun way to record what I read, with no pressure to read things I don’t want to.

What are you making and reading this week?

  1. I like your book bingo plans, and I spent some time yesterday looking at my hold list at the library and what books I have on my want to read list and I was pleasantly surprised to find that many of them fit into a number of squares. The WIP/Cover one might be a challenge but I am hoping a book and a sock can match up at some point this summer! I love how your knitting matches that lovely quartz (??) top!

  2. Good progress on Match & Move. Yours will be stunning when finished. I agree on your approach to Book bingo. I've actually decided to not print a card this year. Last year Book Bingo almost made reading a chore for me and I don't want to feel that way. I am keeping a list of what I've read this year (and my ratings) just for fun. I'm curious to see what and how much (or little?) I do read in a given year.

  3. I agree with your approach to book bingo, I've been working on my list and have chosen books I really want to read and enjoy. I don't want to feel pressured to cover the card. I am a fast reader and always thinking ahead to what I want to read next. I would like to slow down a bit and be more relaxed about my reading. I haven't done much knitting this week, I'll pick up the needles again soon! Your Match & Move is looking good!

  4. We share our approach to Summer Bingo. I can't read books just for the sake of fitting them into the card. My card is straight forward and I think it should be fairly easy to get a bingo or two.

  5. Oh and I love your Match and Move! The colors are rich and organic.

  6. I usually let self-imposed reading goals get in the way of my pleasure, so I have stopped doing that. I set my goodreads goals low on purpose, and I don't participate in Book Bingo. I like to read what I like without any outside or inside pressures. I admire all of you who set those goals, but it's not for me. I noticed on goodreads that you have acquired the new Michael Pollen book. Me, too! Although I don't know how quickly I will get to it since once again, all my requests at the library have come in at the same time. No knitting lately, just chores. Hope things are going well, and your match and move looks great!

  7. Reading: As Bright As Heaven

Knitting: A complicated (for me) sock and I'm enjoying it, but boy does it move along slowly on those pattern rows. I have to pay attention! LOL

Hope you get plenty of reading time this summer (even though we BOTH know ... moving = very little free time).

  8. Your Match-and-Move is just lovely. I really like that color combination, and I can't wait to watch it grown. :-)
I listened to the first Vera Stanhope while removing wallpaper in/painting my dining room. I really enjoyed it -- it was so much more than a "police procedural;" I really appreciated the character development. I just finished the second in the series yesterday. Perfect reading after a couple of more "heavy" reads! XO

  9. Your Match & Move is looking great!
I feel the same way about reading. I'm not in school anymore. Reading is for pure pleasure. I can, and will, read what I want, when I want. Although I'll admit, Book Bingo does inspire me to read out of my normal comfort zone.

  11. Match & Move is fab! I'm between books right now - trying to decide what to read as I don't want to read something now that I could use for a Bingo square later!

  13. Match & Move is such a dramatic knit. It must be fun to watch it grow.
I've been reading "How Democracy Dies." Not very cheerful, I must say.

    1. It would have grown a lot more if I hadn't had to rip out two whole sections because of mistakes I made, but it is a great and creative pattern.

  14. That's been my Book Bingo approach all along... there's no way I'd ever get a cover-all (and I'm lucky to even get a Bingo), but I love how it makes me look at new ideas/genres.

  15. This is the third reference to Ann Cleeves I've seen in three days. That might be a sign I need to investigate! I enjoyed Winter even more than Autumn, but haven't been able to find a date when to expect Spring. sigh. I was hoping I could read it this Summer :-)

  16. If I put too much stress on reading a lot, I read way less. It's too much pressure that is self imposed. I finished the Brothers Karamazov and let's say I am beyond thrilled to be done with those brothers.
