Amaryllis Watch

Without electricity I couldn't post last week, but since I could still charge my phone at the library, I took plenty of pictures of Daphne. So for this week's amaryllis watch you get twice the photos!

She was busy showing off her absolutely gorgeous blossoms last week,

along with her second bud and the promise of more flowers to come.

This week her first blooms are just beginning to fade the tiniest bit around the edges,

but are still so beautiful that I just can't resist taking multiple photos each day.

The bud on the second stalk is starting to open with a beguiling peek of what's to come next week.

More exquisite loveliness!

  6. The richness and depth of Daphne's color is eye candy at its best. I have never seen an amaryllis that color of deep red purple.

  9. Beautiful!! Now that I have a gym membership (where there are showers) I teeny tiny bit less about the electricity going. Before I had to ask a friend for a shower and a charge up. You make me want an amaryllis.

  10. Lovely, Bonny! I'm so glad Daphne didn't suffer from the power outage ... in fact I can't even tell that she noticed!

  11. This is gorgeous, Bonny. I'm so glad you were able to enjoy it during your ordeal, and I am so glad it hasn't seemed to suffer from the cold in your house. It is, after all, a tropical plant, isn't it? I looked it up, and there is a species from Africa, and a species from South America, and both places seem to be warmer than NJ! Simple pleasures are so welcome anytime, but especially during times of stress.

    1. I was afraid she wouldn't be happy because the house got so cold, but if anything it seems as if the cold may have made her flowers last a little longer. I hadn't even considered the fact that they are a tropical species, but you've given me something to think about. I know they are are susceptible to frost, so I don't put mine outside until at least May, but apparently they can tolerate 48 degrees for several days. That will just have to remain a hypothesis because I don't want to conduct that experiment again any time soon!

    1. Thanks, Kathy! It's always nice to have flowers around, but you're right, they are even more lovely when we're dealing with snow, ice, and cold!
