Unraveled Wednesday

Joining Kat and friends for Unraveled Wednesday.

This week looks a lot like last week, but if you squint just the right way, you might see some small, subtle changes. I think the gradient is very slowly beginning to show in my Hitchhiker! I had it on my lap, and in the right light, the cast on at the point is obviously darker than what I am knitting with now. It's hard to see in the photo above, but after taking about 30 photos in different light on different backgrounds, this is the best I could come up with:

I think you can see the difference here, but even if I can't convince you, the yarn that I am knitting with now is obviously lighter than at the start. I don't have a scale so I can't tell how much I've knit with and how much I have left, but my plan is to just knit until I run out of yarn. (It's possible this may end up as the world's longest Hitchhiker.)

I'm reading Reservoir 13 as a real book that I was lucky enough to win on goodreads. It's interesting, but the plot is moving along slowly, so my reading is also. In the "never say never" department, I'm listening to Turtles All the Way Down. I swore that I was too old for John Green's YA fiction and would never read any more after I was disappointed by The Fault in Our Stars, but a title I love, and a couple of quotes from the book convinced me to give this one a try.

Worrying is the correct worldview. Life is worrisome.

Anybody can look at you. It's quite rare to find someone who sees the same world you see.

So far, it's excellent.

What are you making and reading?

  1. I'm knitting socks (Hannah's) and reading 4321 which is excellent!

  2. Oh, congrats to you on the Goodreads win! That is awesome!! And, I see that gradient!! Beautiful!

As for me, I am back to the push to finish up in process projects, but this chilly weather is making me itch to cast on a sweater!

  3. I can see the gradient changes! That yarn is just beautiful. That project would keep my interest, surely, because I'd always be wanting to knit just a few more rows to see more gradient. :-) I'm slogging through Forest Dark (Nicole Krauss), and really looking forward to the end (maybe today). I'm on a seemingly endless wait list on Overdrive for Reservoir 13. . .

  5. I am not familiar with this book. Will have to look it up. Your hitchhiker is about to become something new! Soon, you will look down and see it. Isn't it nice to have an object that morphs? I am still slogging through Forest Dark, just like Kym, but I am unsure how much longer I will slog. I haven't had much reading time lately, and I find that I am picking up Manhattan Beach rather than Forest Dark. Still knitting my garter stitch coat, but very slowly. I have been making apple pies for the freezer, making soap, re-pointing the mortar on my back porch, going to doctor appointments, etc, etc. Unfortunately this leaves very little knitting or reading time. Hopefully I will make some progress on the fall "to-do" list soon and can return to what I want to do! Have a great Wednesday, Bonny!

    1. It seems like Forest Dark has been disappointing for everyone; that's a real shame because History of Love was so good. You have been busy, with some interesting things (I've never repointed mortar!), but it's still not like being able to sit and knit all day. I'm imagining your garter stitch coat in all its wonderful, squishy warmth, and I'd love to see a picture of it some day!

  6. I can notice the gradient change, the yarn is really beautiful! I'm reading 4321 and enjoying it, but it seems like I've barely made a dent in this long book.

  7. I can see the color changing!!! When I used a gradient yarn, once the color began to noticeably change, the changes came more frequently which was fun!! Both of those books look interesting. Love the quotes from Turtles. I never did read Fault, so maybe I'll skip that one and go right to Turtles!

  8. I see change coming on! I just finishing The Haunting of Hill House (scary!) and then I'm stepping outside my comfort zone with Sing, Unburied, Sing. Next week I've got to get organized enough to join Unraveled.

  9. Whether you see the change or not, the Hitchhiker color is still beautiful.

  10. I can see the change! It's going to be a beautiful piece. Waiting for South of Broad to renew...I've been soooo slow reading it. Also listening to A Good Hard Look by Ann Napolitano. It's something Mary read...about 1 hour left and it's a big 'ole story. I like it! And...I have a sweater back completed!

  11. Count me in: I too see the slight color change and I'm looking forward to seeing the finished piece or whatever it is, depending on when you run out of yarn or finish - which ever comes first?
Not much reading of fiction at this point...still making my way through #3 Inspector Gamache: The Cruelest Month. I probably read a chapter a day or so...
    Cheers~

  12. I DO see the lighter blue!! I, too, have sworn off YA, but I'm intrigued about the Turtles ... look forward to your review once you finish.

  14. I'm so glad to know I wasn't the only one underwhelmed by The Fault in Our Stars and am happy to hear Turtles is better from your perspective.
