Unraveled Wednesday: 12/10/25

I’m happily joining Kat and the Unravelers today, with an almost-completed second slipper and a few rows on my Hitchhikers.

I had hoped to be done with the slippers, but I've still got 18 rows of ribbing left to go on the fold-over cuff. The winter light was fading fast on Tuesday afternoon, so I took the photo but I'll have them completed by next week. I have a full skein of the soft green Malabrigo Chunky and I'd like to make myself a pair of mittens, but I don't think one skein is enough. I just might have to do some Christmas yarn shopping for myself.

I did a few more rows on the blue Hitchhiker and cast on (again) for the soft gray one. I've only knit six teeth on the gray one but I'm glad to have it back on the needles. Sometimes I'm in a gray mood and sometimes I feel more like working on something in a cheerier bright blue.

I haven't finished any books this week but I've been reading our current Read With Us book, The Antidote, and several excellent advance reader copies. The ARC s are so good that I want to take my time and savor them, while also reading quickly to see how they turn out. This is a good dilemma to have.

What are you making and reading this week?

  1. I wonder if a skein of the Malabrigo would be enough for mittens if you used a contrast color for the cuffs? I see that one of the ARCs you have is Whistler; I've requested it, too, but who knows if I'll be approved. What I do approve of is multiple Hitchhikers in progress!

  2. Love the slippers! And choices are always good for knitting, so I am glad you gave yourself some. I finished Wild Dark Shore yesterday. It was a slog for me. It felt like a slow disaster movie, and I don't enjoy slow disaster movies. Like Sarah, I also requested Whistler, but as of yet have not been approved. I was going to cast on for a vest, but I cannot find my needles. Everything in this house got rearranged when I had the floors refinished, and I am constantly trying to find things.

  3. I think those slippers look fantastic! And though 18 rows does not sound like a lot of knitting... it is a lot of ribbing! I also like the pick your mood hitchhiker! (that's a great idea actually... one I think I will borrow!) Slow reading is not a bad thing... at all!

  4. Love those big chunky slippers!! And the color. And two Hitchhikers! Both look great. I think of grey as a soothing color, but I do understand the desire for color at times.
