I know that all of you have heard the news from yesterday, and while it was exactly what I had hoped for, I also know that it may not change what happens in the future at all. But my own reaction surprised me a bit. I got a little teary-eyed, and when I thought about why, I think it was because I imagined him hearing "Guilty" 34 times. I think it's the first time he's been held accountable in any way for all of his chaotic and illegal actions. Did anybody else have a reaction to the verdict?

Michael Tyler, the Biden campaign's communications director, wrote in a statement:
"In New York today, we saw that no one is above the law. Donald Trump has always mistakenly believed he would never face consequences for breaking the law for his own personal gain. But today's verdict does not change the fact that the American people face a simple reality. There is still only one way to keep Donald Trump out of the Oval Office: at the ballot box. Convicted felon or not, Trump will be the Republican nominee for president. The threat Trump poses to our democracy has never been greater. He is running an increasingly unhinged campaign of revenge and retribution, pledging to be a dictator 'on day one' and calling for our Constitution to be 'terminated' so he can regain and keep power. A second Trump term means chaos, ripping away Americans' freedoms and fomenting political violence – and the American people will reject it this November."
I can only hope he's right. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and maybe take the chance to celebrate just a little.
I was wishing I had some champagne on ice to toast 34 guilties yesterday! Sadly I know it won't change many people's minds, but I'll enjoy this moment just the same.
ReplyDeleteYes, we were thrilled to hear guilty on ALL charges...but I'm amazed that he can still run for President and saddened that so many will vote for him. I don't get that part at all!
ReplyDeleteWe're up north at the lake for a few days . . . and we were thrilled to hear the news. (I'm sure our cabin neighbors right next door did not share our joy.) It's so gratifying to me that he is being forced to reckon with the rule of law. Finally.

ReplyDeleteI was in shock. I've all but given up hope that anyone would ever find him accountable for anything. I've had to stay away from the news today because the apologists are out in full force. The list of offences his family and business have accumulated over the years is long so how anyone could think these particular charges were frivolous when there is an obvious pattern of criminal behavior going back decades. I steer everyone who dares talk politics with me to Project 2025 and ask them if this is their vision for the future. Most have never even heard of it. The media is letting us down.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it will change things and I still have to accept the idea that he will probably be president in November, but at least I can say the words "convicted felon" every time I see his name. I'm struggling with the idea that a felon can not serve in the military, yet one could serve as commander in chief.

DeleteI am pleased Mr Trump was held accountable. I am sad that so many still support him and see nothing wrong with his actions, believing he is being politically persecuted.

And even better was the latest polling (although I am not a believer in polls as much as I once was... ) but regardless... those polls showed a shift... 49% of independents and 15% of gop said he should not be running for president. I think perhaps we have reached a tipping point... all the nonsense is finally breaking through. (I mean what a better week for change than the one where the flag-flying nitwit on the SC happens when Cheeto is found guilty on all counts by a jury of his peers.)

ReplyDeleteDale heard it first and he was in the car and he called me and he was quite literally WHOOPING with JOY! We danced in the kitchen when he got home.
ReplyDeleteI was glad that he was finally held accountable for something, but still feeling sick that people will still vote for him. I am terrified that he will be elected in Nov.
