Kat is hopefully enjoying herself on vacation so there's no linkup, but it's still Unraveled Wednesday to me. No unraveling here, but I do have some sewing to share with you.
Way back when we had to sew masks, I got this fabric from Spoonflower that I loved. Pretty but very slightly badass at the same time.
I sewed six masks, three for me and three for Ryan and they were my favorites. I have about half a yard left and I've been thinking about how I could best use it. After perusing youtube for quite a while, I came upon just what I was looking for: how to make a Japanese knot bag. In this video, Crafty Patti shows you how to sew a Japanese knot bag in three different sizes with either a rounded or gusset bottom. She explains things perfectly suited to my limited sewing ability so I gave it a try.
First, I made a pattern for the small size with a gusseted bottom.
Then I moved all the turkey hunting stuff on the dining room table so I could lay my fabric out and cut out the pattern.
Next, there was some sewing, rewatching parts of the video, more sewing, pressing, and just the tiniest bit of swearing when I was topstitching the curve around the smaller strap. (Yes, my sewing machine is in a dark alcove, and it doesn't help that it was raining and cloudy outside.)
And I can put the long strap through the short strap and it will hold one completed sock and the second one at the gusset decrease stage.
I don't think I'm going to be winning any topstitching awards, but I'm inordinately proud of my "FFF" bag. My fabric stash isn't very large, but I was feeling confident enough that I got out some fabric I used to make curtains for Ryan's room 20 years ago and will probably make a medium size bag. But not today; I'm just going to bask in the glory of some successful sewing for now and finish knitting my socks.

ReplyDeleteWell done, YOU!!! That is the perfect bag for when the sock (or other) knitting is not going well and you just want to let the whole world know about it!!!! Or....it could be FFF look what fantastic thing I made! Either way works.
ReplyDeleteThe bag looks great! I love those bags where the long strap goes through the short strap. I have one now that's starting to fray at the bottom corners. Might have to sew one myself!
