Unraveled Wednesday

I'm joining Kat and fellow Unravelers for Unraveled Wednesday and an FFO (Finally Finished Object)!

Ta-Da! It's another Hitchhiker! The yarn is nice and soft and the lovely pastels are mixed pleasingly, but the yarn was aggravatingly splitty while I was knitting it. While I was blocking it I wondered what I would wear it with. I don't have any pink in my wardrobe, and while I guess it would go with gray, I'm not sure how much I'll wear it. I may save it for a gift when I figure out who it is really meant for.

Now it's back to the Antler cardigan so I can hopefully finish it while it's still cool enough to wear it. No matter when I complete it, there might be a parade to celebrate my first adult sweater in three decades.

And while some people always have socks on their needles, Hitchhikers are my portable projects. Here's one I just cast on (only two teeth) with some lovely Rhichard DeVrieze Peppino I unearthed from deep within the stash. There are a lot of colors in these skeins so I don't know if they'll be too muddled for me once they're knit up, but the only way to decide is to keep knitting for a while.

In reading, I finished The Paper Palace (ugh!) but started The Island of Missing Trees and Groundskeeping. I'm only about halfway done with Island and have just started Groundskeeping, but so far, they are head and shoulders above PP and more than making up for its awfulness.

What are you making and reading this week?

  1. Well, that's a gorgeous Hitchhiker. It would go with anything denim or black - also white for a summer wrap going into AC. I'm not much of a pink person myself, but I do love the shades in that. And your latest Hitchhiker start looks like a riot of fun! Yesterday I started Island - I'm only 50 or 60 pages in, but I'm loving the writing.

  3. It's a really lovely Hitchhiker, Bonny. It will make a lovely gift for someone . . . OR maybe once spring arrives more "fully," you'll be happy for a splash of pink in your wardrobe? And are those real crocus blooms in your world??? I haven't seen any blooming here yet, but maybe soon . . . as we've got a bit of a warm-up going on! I really enjoyed The Island of Missing Trees, and hope you'll like it, too!

  4. I love this Hitchhiker and am so happy to see it finally finished! I had to click to enlarge the photo because I thought you'd added pompoms to some of the teeth -- nope, chocolate! The colors in the new one are beautiful, and I hope they don't get muddy.

I have The Island of Missing Trees on my TBR list, but right now I'm trying to get through The Arsonists' City. It's slow going not because I'm not enjoying it but because work and all the life things aren't giving me much reading time lately. At least I know that I'll have some dedicated reading time on the airplane on Saturday (assuming I don't fall asleep -- it leaves at 5:55 a.m.!).

  5. I know it's early on, but I think that colorful Hitchhiker will not be muddled at all. The pink one is very pretty too. I think it would look pretty with navy blue, green, purple. The possibilities!!!

  6. Yes, hang onto that HH until you are sure who should have it. I am still amazed at how my color rules get blown out of the water sometimes. I wear colors now that I would not have considered when I was younger, but I have to admit a lot of them are drab - HA! The new HH looks like a riot of color, and that will be a lot of fun to knit, I think. Your crocus are beautiful and joyful, Bonny. Hooray for spring!

  9. I love that you totally disliked PP! I actually liked it but I hated the ending. The pink hitchhiker is lovely - you may find yourself putting it on with a white shirt for a spring stroll or supper?

  10. The pink hitchhiker is pretty and will make a nice gift if you decide to give it away. Hooray for purple crocus! I agree - ugh to The Paper Palace. It was my local book group selection or I wouldn't have read as much of it as I did. I'll be anxious to see how this latest hitchhiker looks with a few more teeth. I like the bright colors on this gray day.

  12. gorgeous finish!! Having a hitchhiker always on the needles sounds like a good plan. I've been having a cowl at the ready.
