Unraveled Wednesday

I'm joining Kat and the Unravelers for Unraveled Wednesday, with some of my usual knitting and also something new.

I found this Hitchhiker in a project bag and remembered how nice the yarn is. These aren't exactly fall colors, but it looks like I put it on my Ravelry challenge list to finish this year. Seeing as how I started it back in 2017, it really is time to get it finished.

And there is also the prospect of a sweater. Justin gave me a Webs gift certificate for Mother's Day and I bought some lovely dk weight yarn. I swatched, but have since fallen out of love with the pattern I intended to knit. After searching patterns for a long time, I just can't get the Antler cardigan out of my mind. It's meant for worsted, but plenty of people have used dk, so I'm going to give it a try. I'm doing some more swatches but will start with the sleeves (maybe later this week?) so I can more properly assess gauge before I start on the body. I'm going slowly because my first sweater attempt in 30 years feels like a big deal.

Since last week I've finished The Five Wounds (an excellent book that I highly recommend) and re-listened to several Gary Paulsen audiobooks (Tracker, Hatchet, Brian's Winter and Brian's Return). I'm waiting for lots of books in hold queues, but a friend just finished The Lincoln Highway and gave it five stars. She rarely rates books this highly unless they are deserving and has never led me astray, so I've just started it this morning.

What are you making and reading this week?

  1. That pink Hitchhiker is so pretty Bonny! And love the color yarn you have chosen for your Antler - that will be gorgeous. I really like Amor Towles writing, so thanks for othe reminder of that book - I will add to my TBR list. When I read the title of that book, I thought it was a book that Fletch and I read some years back ("American Road" by Pete Davies) which was quite good!

  2. That yarn is going to be great for Antler -- the cables are really going to pop!

I am focusing on my Shifty pullover this week (I finally finished the yoke and split off for the sleeves last night), and yesterday I started reading The Push (I know you didn't like it much).

  6. I love the color of that yarn! I am itching to make a blue sweater but I have too many things on the needles right now. Maybe in January.

  7. I remember this Hitchhiker! The lace pattern and the color make this a standout. A cardigan is on my mind this year, but I'm not sure I'm ready to tackle one.I will encourage and cheer you on as much as possible. The yarn is beautiful and it will be very wearable, too!

  8. On my walk this morning, I saw a bed of marigolds and asters(? I'm not positive about this one) that was almost the exact match for that hitchhiker - you pair that with a deep blue, forest green, or purple and you'll be "fall in Georgia" :-) I've heard good things about Lincoln Highway, too - can't wait to hear your thoughts.

  9. The yarn for your sweater is just beautiful, Bonny! I love that color -- and I think it'll make a lovely Antler cardigan. (And you can always take long breaks to enjoy time with that lovely Hitchhiker.) :-) I loved The Five Wounds, and I'm so glad you liked it, too. I finished The Lincoln Highway over the weekend. I didn't like it as much as I did The Gentleman in Moscow, but that's quite a high bar . . . I'll look foward to seeing what you think of it!

  10. Gorgeous yarn for your sweater! It looks like it'll have great stitch definition for the textured areas.

  11. The hitchhiker is very pretty. I like finding a long lost project that is fairly far along. The Antler sweater is a great pattern. I knit a toddler size once and it turned out great. My sister has knit a few too. I love that cadet blue? (that is what it looks like on my monitor) color.
