Unraveled Wednesday

I'm joining Kat and the Unravelers for Unraveled Wednesday, now with actual unraveling!

I swatched and dithered last week until I finally chose some needles and just got started on an Antler sleeve. I knit in the passenger seat on our way down to MD and then noticed an errant increase (just sitting there all by itself where it didn't belong) when I was knitting Sunday evening. I blame my lack of concentration on all the traffic and feeling like I needed to remind John that he didn't need to drive at 78 mph.

I ripped back, removed the random increase and now I'm back on track. Another ten inches or so of knitting and I'll have a completed sleeve. You can teach an old dog new tricks, but they do learn slowly. No harm was done; it's just knitting and can easily be unraveled if I need to start over (yet again, in case I've chosen the wrong needle size and it doesn't fit).

Last week's reading included State of Terror and I was surprised to find that it was a four-star book for me. (You can see yesterday's post for a more in-depth review.) I'm now happily listening to The Lincoln Highway and Pax, Journey Home. They are both good books to accompany sleeve knitting.

What are you making and reading this week?

  1. What a beautiful shade of blue for your sweater - it will be gorgeous. Sorry about the errant increase - always surprises me when something like that happens with my knitting - I always think "where was I??" LOL I just started Pax, Journey Home the other day.

  2. Those pesky errant increases! The color is truly lovely! I am glad you are back on track!

I just requested Pax from my library (how have I not read that yet??) Once I have read it I will get on the list for Pax, Journey home! :)

  4. Even with the unraveling, it looks like you're making excellent progress (much easier to do with bigger yarn)! I hope there is no further unraveling in the future. Perhaps at this time next week, you'll have two sleeves!

  5. Sorry about the unraveling, but that is one gorgeous sleeve you've got going there! That color is just wonderful! :-)
I finished my test-knit project this week (which feels so freeing), so now I'm trying not to cast on All The Things.

  6. That sleeve is looking good, Bonny. It can be discouraging to have to rip back when you first start a new project, but at least you caught it before you got any further! I am still anxiously awaiting some books to come in from my hold list, darn it! I am doing some Swedish Death Cleaning, so I thought I should read the book and got it from my library. I am currently cleaning out a 3 car garage with a workshop full of fishing gear, tools, electrical and plumbing supplies, hunting supplies, you name it! It feels somewhat overwhelming, but it has to be done, and it will feel fabulous when I am finished.

  7. I usually knit top down sweaters so I haven’t tried the sleeve swatch idea. Sorry you had to unravel but I am sure you will be happy about it in the end. Hope the swatch fits.

  8. I'm so glad you found that errant extra stitch and unraveling wasn't too hard ... I do think the sleeve-in-progress is looking good!

  9. That blue sleeve is so pretty but then you know how I feel about blue - any blue. Finding that errant increase before too many rows went by is a good thing. At least it wasn't joined to the body of a sweater. I have The Lincoln Highway on my holds list. I'm glad to hear you are enjoying it.
