Sometimes Monday ...

... is a day to work your grumpies out.

This is the first book Justin read all by himself, and it's been a family favorite for 25 years. Apologies in advance because Mr. Grump does look like a very angry man with severe hypertension, but he turns out all right in the end.

I don't have one big thing that's making me grumpy today, but there are a bunch of little things that have added up. I spent what I had hoped might be a relaxing weekend in NJ getting the furnace fixed. I thought I was going to be staying in NJ this week, taking the overflowing recycling to the collection facility, mowing the lawn, doing some much-needed catching up on paperwork, and most importantly, getting my hair cut.

But, it turns out that John scheduled a Zoom meeting for Thursday about retirement/financial stuff, and I should really attend. There are also several long and involved computer issues, so what this means is that I had to spend several hours inputting financial details into the retirement planning site this weekend, order a new laptop for John, drive to MD so I can be here to set up the computer for him (his expertise is limited to pushing the power button on and off), and then be here to attend the meeting on Thursday.

But next week, I am definitely staying in NJ and getting my hair cut. Nothing fancy, but hopefully when I'm done it won't look like I've been cutting my own hair for a year (which is exactly what I've been doing).

I hope this Monday doesn't find you too grumpy, with too many broken things that you seem to be in charge of fixing, or other people making choices for you and just assuming that you will take part. I hope you have a good week!

  1. Oh gee! Sorry about that Bonny. Boy do I hate getting new computers and setting them up. I'm not real tech savvy, but definitely more so than Fletch. I'm going to be setting up a hair appointment soon too (our second shots are tomorrow).

  2. ha! I just wrote that I was grumpy on Sunday, something is in the air. Retirement meetings are SO WORTH IT! It's a pain in the butt to fill out all of the paperwork (and it's stupid redundant stuff). I thought I'd go nuts. However, once it's all done (keep a list and a folder) you will be so very happy.

  3. I hope your week goes well. Fun illustration from the book. I hope the retirement planning goes better than you expected.

  4. Okay. I so totally get the drip-drip-drip of the grump-grump-grumps. Here's hoping you can find some small joys in the midst of a week that's gone completely out of your control. XOXO

  5. John may be not so computer savvy, but at least he's better than a woman my father-in-law used to work with years ago. She called him for hep because she couldn't get her computer to turn on. It turned out that the "button" she'd been pushing was the manufacturer logo on the screen. D'oh!

I am sorry the weekend didn't go as planned; these things are important but have a way of ruining all our best-laid plans, don't they? I hope the week is better and that you get that long-awaited haircut next weekend! (And thanks for the reminder that in two weeks, I can go get my own haircut!)

  6. Sorry you have reasons to have the grumps, Bonny. I have been trying for years to get rid of my expectations about how things will go as I have found that it is one of the greatest sources of the grumps for me. Things rarely go as I expect! So why do I have those expectations? I hope the things that have you grumpy don't go as expected either, and that you have lots of joyful moments this week. Just think! Retirement - ahhhhhh.

    1. Good one! I am old enough to clearly remember Schoolhouse Rock, so I can even sing Malfunction Junction!

  11. I'm struck with your capabilities to handle it all! Setting up computers, seemingly complicated paperwork, and the ability to be flexible to handle it all. May next week be relaxing and enjoyable!

  12. Heh, heh...folks making choices for you. ;-) Not at home but other places...urghhh. Wishing you an okay week and can you go back to your pub yet?

  13. May your financial planning meeting go well and the computer work as intended and your haircut be as you wish. My hair stylist retired and my hair looks like it should be retired.

  14. I am with you on working out the grumpies (for me it took a nice little trip to Erie and a change of scenery!) I am going to try and find a place to get my hair cut this week (fingers crossed, the woman who cut it previously had a baby and is not cutting hair any longer, sigh. Pandemic Times and finding a new stylist... I am avoiding the grumpies though!)
