Piles o' Progress

As I look around the house, I see various piles o' stuff, all of which represent progress.

I'm taking this pile of boxes to the post office this morning. My goal is to get them all sent on their way and to make the clerk smile. Our post office is not known for their friendliness, especially during busy times, but I'm determined.

This bunch of bags is wrapped gifts, sorted by family, and ready to be delivered. That will probably happen by Saturday.

While not exactly a pile, this is the ribbon I wrap the porch columns in. It might happen today, or I might wait until Friday when it's supposed to be ten degrees warmer.

This is the start of the pile for cookie day. My SiL made me this apron that says "a true friend is someone who thinks that you are a good egg even though he knows you are slightly cracked". I love it and wear it every cookie day. This pile will eventually have four types of dough added to it, along with several crock pots and lots of chili so we don't make ourselves sick on cookies.

I like seeing these piles, especially because they show that I'm getting things done. The post office pile will be dealt with shortly, and I can soon get back to where I'd really like to be, working on this pile o' knitting.

Time to go see if I can make the post office clerk smile!

  1. Good luck at the post office! I hope the clerks are all awash in smiles after your visit!

  2. You are awesome! And I don't know why those P.O. people are so P.O. but man are they miserable. Must be part of the job description! Best of luck with the smile!

  3. Nice that someone is accomplishing something!! LOL I need to wrap gifts to ship...but at least I have the luxury of shipping via UPS from work (I do pay for it...but easier than standing in line at the PO with a grumpy clerk in front of me). I vote for waiting on the porch till later (though my phone is showing a snow symbol for Thursday.....). Love the saying on your apron.

  4. I don't need another cookie cookbook and I bet you don't, either... but listening to The Splendid Table podcast episode about the Minnesota Star Tribune cookie competition and resulting cookbook sure made me want one. You might enjoy it, too! https://www.splendidtable.org/story/best-in-show-winning-cookie-recipes

    1. I'm a terrible shopper, so purchasing the presents is the toughest part. Last night I was on a roll with a beer (or two or three) and got them all wrapped, packed for the PO, and sorted. I may have hurt my shoulder patting myself on the back!

  6. Oh, that makes me laugh about your P.O. When I managed my mom's antique mall, there was one particular dealer who would always come in with a scowl and a bad attitude... it was always my mission to get a smile (if not a laugh) from her before she left!! I'll be babysitting & sampling tonight while my girls have "cookie night" and I'm looking forward to a very fun evening!

  8. You are so productive! Looking forward to seeing all the cookies (virtual cookies have no calories, don't you know!) and hearing whether you were successful in getting a smile from teh postal clerk.

  9. Lots of progress, Bonny, and it's only 12/11! You go girl! I'm like you, I am always determined to make those clerks smile, and I often succeed. When people ask why they are so grumpy, I think it is mostly because they deal with a lot of grumpy and unhappy people in those lines, so I try to be pleasant and cheerful. I love that apron, and the sentiment is so true. Keep up the good work!

  10. you will get a smile, I just know it. Look at you go with tackling the list! I'm in awe. I am going to start wrapping tomorrow morning (and finish???) and then chill for the afternoon. We will see if this happens.

  11. Hope you had good luck with the post office! We've got a grouchy clerk at the one across the street from where I work and frankly I've given up on getting her to smile!

  12. oh I do hope you saw that clerk smile - your packages are certainly neat and tidy! ...and the pile o' knitting looks most inviting! (less than two weeks to go - yikes!)

  13. I have no doubt your succeeded in your goal. Maybe you can give me tips on the grouchy woman at my PO. I'm wondering if anyone will help you carry all your packages into the PO. Here's to spending your afternoon knitting and relaxing!

  14. I hope you made her smile!!! (My local PO has really friendly clerks. Sometimes I wish they wouldn't smile quite so much with the people ahead of me in line. . . ) It feels good to move piles forward, doesn't it? (And especially in December.) XO
