Decorations Delivered

I like using greens to decorate for Christmas, and debated buying some bunches when I was out searching for glitter-free poinsettias. I decided against it at the time, thinking that a walk in the woods at my mother-in-law's this weekend would do me good, and I could cut plenty of pine, cedar, and holly myself.

But then these guys pulled up early yesterday morning. They are "my" tree guys, but they were here to trim my neighbor's trees. They wanted to use my driveway, apologized for the noisy chipper but chuckled politely when I asked them to use it on the quiet setting, and got to work.

I got a little more excited when they moved the truck and I saw that they were also going to trim my neighbor's pine tree. I ran out to talk to the guy on the ground and after he handed me a hard hat, I asked him if he minded if I cut some of the greens that they were trimming. He told me to take all that I wanted, so I got my clippers and stood back in my hard hat. (Sorry there's no selfie; he already thought I was a little odd.)

Thanks, guy in the bucket. The best greens are a little higher up.

Yes, please trim some for me from the very tippy-top!

How lucky I am to have a big basket of decorations delivered! I haven't done anything with them yet, but my hands smell delightfully piney and I've got loads of greens to decorate with. Thanks, tree guys!

  1. This is just excellent! Serendipitous timing, for sure! I love using fresh greens in my decorating -- and I always feel so fortunate that I can just do a bit of trimming right in my own yard and garden. I don't have any holly, but I do have several evergreens - including boxwood, which makes great decor-fodder - and . . . I have red twig dogwood. Bonus!

    Have fun with your decorating!

  3. What luck for you!

I also saw someone's post yesterday where they used discarded boughs and bottoms from trees at Home Depot for decorations ... mind = blown.

  7. Oh my, the tree guys should have thought to take a picture of you. If only they'd known about your blog. You really scored and, one thing is certain, your house is going to have the delightful scent of Christmas throughout.

  9. This is just so great! Fletch was supposed to get our tree into the house this morning (I'm still at work, so not sure that happened...yet) and I'm hoping for the Christmas scent when I walk inside.

PS I really would have loved to see a pic of you in the hard hat - lol.

    1. Snow is predicted here also. I was supposed to drive down to Delaware tomorrow, but I'll have to see what the roads look like. I'd really rather stay home, knit, and enjoy the snow from inside!

  11. How wonderful! I can just imagine that fresh smell - and they're so freshly cut (unlike anything you can find to buy) they'll last until spring :-)

  12. Winter pine tree aroma is next in line as the best smell, after fresh air fragrance on clean sheets from the clothesline.
I agree, I would have liked to have seen the hardhat on you.
I am in Austin tending grandkids and they had snow the evening before, barely a half inch, and a snow day was called! The 4year old had never seen it before, so extra surprise and excitement. (And all the wet mittens later.)
We are lucky, at home in TN we have a few extra magnolia leaves for winter which make a very green Xmas decoration, and they stay so well.

    1. I started cutting some of the pines to decorate with and they do smell wonderful! My youngest son used to work in Carrizo Springs in far southern TX and received loads of pictures of snow there from friends. It was barely half an inch but still delighted many 20-year-old young men, some of whom had never seen snow. Hope your grandkids had fun with it!
