Sometimes Monday ...

... is a good day to breathe a big sigh of relief that you finally finished the fingerless mitts for Ryan, and you were the first person in line at the post office on Saturday to send them to Colorado.

It's also a great day to enjoy the peaceful round-and-round knitting of an alpaca cowl for Justin (after you're done identifying the fox tracks in the snow). I've never seen the fox in person, but now I know there's one nearby.

I hope the rabbit keeps a wary eye out.

  2. I bet it feels great to have those mitts in the mail!!! Isn't it fun to "track" in the snow? I've seen fox tracks in my yard, too. But never the elusive fox! I really like the color of the yarn for Justin's cowl. XO

  4. Great mitts - I want to try a pair as soon as I finish the current hat I have on the needles.

  5. Hooray for getting those mitts done! I knew you could do it, Bonny. I hope the cowl flies off your needles. Did you decide what to call it yet to make it sound more appealing? LOL I need to make myself a pair of mitts, but who knows when I will get to it. I need to just get them started and have them available as I need a small, portable knit to take with me for appointments. I cannot believe that it is a week before Christmas. I am so behind on everything for the holiday. I will try to follow your lead today and get busy.

    1. OH, and how can you tell it's a fox?

    2. Thanks, Becky! I think I'm just going to tell Justin that "this piece of knitting" will keep him really warm, and if he really doesn't like it after he tries it, I will he happy to knit him something else (maybe gloves with four fingers so he'll have a free finger to use his video camera?)

Justin had several books that he loved as a child: Whose Tracks Are These?, Big Tracks, Little Tracks, and the Peterson Guide to Animal Tracks. We looked at them many times along with many walks in the snow, so I got to learn along with Justin. Fox tracks look a lot like cat tracks, but the foxes' stride is much longer. I did have to check the Peterson guide to be sure! Good luck with getting things done (and maybe just try to get to the really important ones and ignore the rest like I'm doing)!

  8. You have quiet a menagerie in your neighborhood! How fun, really to know nature hasn't been driven away by "progress". Your knitting is the perfect accompaniment. Ryan is going to love his mitts!

  9. I've lived in the Fox Valley, near the Fox River, for most of my life and have seen a fox exactly three times -- or, more accurately, the BLUR of a fox. Once was practically right out our back door shortly after we moved into our current house; another spotted near a pond early one morning on the way to work; and the third wasn't even around here (dashing through the yard up north at my uncle's). Congrats on getting those mitts finished & on their way!!

  10. I've got a few fox sightings under my belt but thinking it has been a while. Absolutely beautiful if you see a red fox rather than a grey fox! (Though any wildlife is wonderful to see!) Those mitts are just beautiful!

    1. Thanks! I had to start taping the boxes and printing the labels plenty early to get my first spot in line at the post office, but it was worth it! There were probably 10 or 12 people getting in line by the time I left.

  16. We have a red fox in our neighborhood, but we only see him about once a year.
Congrats on finishing and mailing the mitts!

  17. Love the fox tracks in the snow, always think there is something special about seeing animal tracks in snow but that might be because we don't see snow that often here! We've had foxes the last couple of years sunning themselves on the shed roof. Love the knitting and fantastic not queuing at the post office.
