Weekending

I wondered whether I should call this post "Weekending" or go with my alternate title of "Welcome to My Glamorous Life". It seems that many bloggers post updates on their weekend activities that are fun, exciting, relaxing, picturesque, or at least have plenty of photos of delicious food. Sorry, but I don't have any of that here for you today. Instead, I'm just going to truthfully tell you all the boring, mundane things I did (and hope that I can possibly provide more fun and excitement in the future).

The first glamorous thing I did was shop for ant bait and take it over to place in my mother-in-law's kitchen. She's been complaining about being overrun by ants and just didn't know what to do. Hopefully the Ultra Advanced Liquid Bait Technology will kill the ants in 24 hours as advertised.

That was so much fun I came home and paid bills. I pay most of them on line, but there are still an irritating few in that pile that require me to write a check, search for an envelope, apply a stamp, and trudge up to the post office.

While I was buying ant traps, I also got some new towels. After washing them four times they still had so much lint that I couldn't imagine actually drying myself off with them. Googling "how to get rid of lint on new towels" produced advice ranging from wash them with baking soda (didn't work for me), wash them with vinegar (also didn't work), or shave them with a sweater shaver (didn't try because that just sounded ridiculous to me). A trip to the laundromat for a spin through the commercial washer and dryer finally did the trick (or maybe it was just because it was the fifth time I washed them).

There was an exciting arrival of a recent Penzey's order. I do embrace hope; I do love people and try to cook them tasty food, and I also try to support companies like Penzey's that do the right thing. They don't just sell wonderful spices; they have a conscience and stand up for what they (and I) believe in.

To top off the parade of glamour and excitement, I scrubbed the kitchen floor, on my hands and knees with an old diaper. Traipsing back and forth from the garden to the kitchen can make the floor fairly dirty, and while I do mop it frequently, it looked like it needed a good old-fashioned scrubbing. I used cloth diapers for the kids and amassed a pile of diapers that make excellent rags. It was time to put them to use.

So, while it's not Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous, it was my weekend and it was productive. Here's hoping your weekend included a little more fun and a little less scrubbing.

  1. Really, this is my kind of weekend! Or should I say, Reality... this is my weekend! lol

  2. Oh gosh - my weekend too! I should have scrubbed the kitchen floor (now at the disgusting phase), but I scrubbed the two bathroom floors instead (with Clorox) and put out fresh ant traps. Oh yes, and bills too. I did manage to do some cooking which was good.

  3. Ah, love those old diapers. Yep, ants are around.
My weekend was quiet, the thermometer was way-up-there so slow days or a slow daze is what is normal. This is the usual type of weather anyway (my guy keeps records).
I mostly read and did those usual quotidian household jobs (love that word - quotidian) -- no knitting as my hands are grumpy with an arthritis flare. But, I ordered Carson Demers' book "Knitting Comfortably" and am hoping to learn some new helpful hints.
    Yep, normal weekend.

    1. I also enjoy words, and was most interested in your use of quotidian. I used to work in a hematology lab, and had only heard the word as it referred to malaria (daily cycles of fevers, sometimes due to infection from two different species of mosquitoes). Ihanks for my new word of the day today!

  4. I laughed when I read about you scrubbing the floor with a diaper, my mother always used old diapers for cleaning, I agree, they do make the best cleaning rags! My floor could use a good scrubbing, but will wait because my dog is blowing her coat and I could clean every day and still have piles of her fur all over! I really like Penzey's spices and got to visit one of their stores last year-they are the best!

  5. I rarely do "weekending" posts . . . because most of mine rival yours in the excitement department! I'm hoping the Advanced Liquid Bait Technology did the trick and that your new towels were soft and luxurious and didn't leave you with a coating of new-towel-lint after your shower. And Penzeys? The BEST! XO

  8. This is a typical weekend for me. No glamour, no excitement, just living. I like to read about how other people spend their days!

    1. I had nothing else, so I was forced to fall back on reality. Maybe I'll do an exciting ant update next week! :-)

  9. Well your weekend was way more productive than mine and I didn't have anything glamorous to share either! Penzeys mail is always good, too. We have a store in town, but I like ordering on line just to get a lovely package in the mail!

  10. You could have posted my weekend activity, which was nearly identical to yours (save the lint, as my towels are old). We had a state holiday yesterday and we decided to make that our lazy day, which only worked slightly. Thank you for sharing the mundanity of my usual weekend. Knowing others live the same way is like being in a (shall we call it) "quotidian club".

  11. Ant killer is amazing. I bought something that they take to their nest and boom, all gone never to return. I love that you are sharing the kinds of things that we all do around the house.
