Unraveled Wednesday

Joining Kat and friends for Unraveled Wednesday.

I can't even finish a Hitchhiker in four days, but I am still plugging along slowly. There are more points on it than last week, but it looks much the same, so you get a closeup of one of my favorite things about knitting with speckled yarn. I love the bright blue and bright pink speckled bits, and when they show up together, I get inordinately excited. I hope fellow knitters understand this more than my husband seems to.

My reading for Book Bingo continues. My four day weekend was interrupted by some small medical and mechanical emergencies, but I did manage to finish Bambi's Children and Salt, Fat, Acid, and Heat. I'm currently reading A Full Life and Whispers Under Ground. Whispers is the third book in the Rivers of London series that Ryan has been recommending nagging me to read for a year or more, and it's beginning to grow on me. I even found a way to work the fourth book into a square on my Book Bingo card; probably because Ryan told me it marked a "critical and pivotal denouement" in the series.

What are you knitting, stitching, and reading this week?

  1. I'm knitting a baby blanket (squeee!) and reading We Were On A Break. It's fluff but it's well deserved fluff since I read some heavy duty stuff on vacation.

  2. Who doesn't get excited when the bright blue and the bright pink show up together???
Does Chris Christie belong on a blog called "Highly Reasonable?" Living, as I do, under Scott Walker, I truly feel your pain!
I can't finish anything in four days unless it's a baby hat!

    1. You may be a kindred spirit with your appreciation of bright blue and pink together, and you have my sincerest sympathy on your governor. At least we had fun last weekend with some very creative Christie photoshop efforts!

  3. I haven't knit much with speckled yarn, but I was delighted to see those colors clump together! and I've been most intrigued about Rivers of London since you mentioned it. Are you reading or listening? I wonder if it might be a good book for my trip!

  4. The speckles are so cheerful and bright. I just cast on a hitchhiker but it will be awhile before it's finished. I have a shawl, socks, and a pair of mitts on the needles. More projects than usual for me but then it is summer. The knitting possibilities get away from me.

  5. Love your birthday yarn! And I do understand completely. I'm going to have to look at those River books...

  6. Denouement! Thank-you for upping my I.Q. today! And like you...I am thrilled when things like those specs show up. But then again, I'm thrilled when I get a new pen or colored paper clips! :-)

  7. You Hitchhiker reminds me of my favorite birthday cake, as it had pink icing with lots and lots of sprinkles all over it!

  8. I love speckled yarn and the continuous surprises they make as you knit. It's like playing "go fish". I'm glad wonder is still part of your life! I have recently read something about those Rivers of London books. Aren't they fantasy? I may have to look at them. I am still knitting the same thing, but I am reading Seven Stones to Stand or Fall by Diana Gabaldon. I admit, to the horror of some, I love Diana Gabaldon books. I find them so human, for lack of a better word. How was Salt, Fat,Acid, Heat? It is sitting on my bedside table waiting for me to begin.

    1. Rivers of London is indeed urban fantasy. Ghosts and jazz vampires are not my usual cup of tea, and I doubt that I would ever have listened to any of them if my older son hadn't nagged me incessantly and we didn't have all six of them in our Audible library. Now that I've gotten to the third book, I'm really enjoying the series. Also, there is nothing wrong with Diana Gabaldon, especially if you like loonngg books! If you click on Salt, Acid, Fat, and Heat in my read bookshelf in the sidebar on the right, it will take you to my review if you're interested. I'll be interested in your thoughts on the book.

    2. I have to really be in the mood for fantasy, but I will keep it in mind for when I am in the mood. I do love a good book that is loonngg! If I enjoy the characters and plot, I am one of those people who never want it to end. Then when it does, I sigh and hold it to my chest and wish for another just like it. I am rather a book addict at times. Didn't notice your goodreads shelf - DUH.

  10. I love the jewel tones of the dyes (at least that is how it looks on my screen). I've been savoring my knitting and not rushing through it, except for the baby dress, that I did rush through! I'm reading easy books, the rosie project and a cute book on victorian manners.
