I've had a bunch of these little orchids over the years, but I'm down to just two of them. I've never successfully rebloomed any of them ... until now!
I can't pretend that I did anything special; it pretty much happened on its own. I did read that lowering the temperature might help in reblooming orchids, and our kitchen where the orchids live was really cold during much of the winter. That may have contributed but it's nothing I can repeat.
The flower stalk has had buds for a couple of months and they finally started to open last week. It's a little bit hard to see, but the flowers have a tiny little "dogtooth" or "v" thing at the end of the lower purple petal that fascinates me. I'm looking forward to more buds opening up and seeing lovely flowers for a while. I may even have to get another little orchid the next time I'm at the grocery store!

Those are just beautiful (re)blooms, Bonny! I love the magic of orchids. I haven't had one in years, but once I managed to get one to rebloom (like you, through nothing I did to control the process), but usually, they are just one-and-done for me. And always worth it. Flowers are magical!
ReplyDeleteWow! Those blooms are just stunning! It's lovely to be treated to a little natural miracle, isn't it? I hope it reminds you of the continuing beauty in the natural world at such a challenging time. I love orchids, but I have never had one last very long. It seems patience and care has paid off. Happy Reblooming Day, indeed.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous blooms (or re-blooms) Bonny! I don't have much luck with orchids and do not currently have one. But, when Iris was born we brought a purple orchid to the hospital for her. That orchid re-bloomed on her birthday (12/12) this past year and...it is still in FULL bloom! Amazing.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Bonny! I have never had an orchid that rebloomed, but I had a neighbor who was magical with orchids! None of her magic ever rubbed off on me though... sigh. What a feat (even if you did nothing) it is for the orchid to rebloom!
ReplyDeleteThat is so exciting! I love the look of orchids but walk right by them because I know I don't have the skill for them.
ReplyDeleteMy grocery store used to sell the "leftovers" after Valentine's Day or Mothers' Day for $5.00 and I could never resist a $5.00 orchid. Now they've increased to $7.50 or $10.00 but that is still an affordable treat!
