Spring Cleaning (Sort Of)

Yesterday was an absolutely beautiful day, 72 degrees, blue skies, and breezy. It made me want to open the windows and wash my kitchen curtains since it was also a perfect drying day. Once I washed the curtains and hung them on the line, I decided that since I had started some spring cleaning, I would continue.

Last week I asked you guys about rechargeable stick vacuums and even though Dyson seemed to be the top choice, I was afraid that brand might be a little pricey for my budget. I ordered an inexpensive ($128) model that was made in China but after reading too many specs I finally picked this one for its price, weight, suction, battery life, and reviews.

I've only used it a little bit but I'm completely happy (so far). The heaviest thing on it is the rechargeable battery, it works really well on both rugs and bare floors, and the charge seems to last at least 30 min. even though I hadn't fully charged it. It even has a cool green headlight that helps me see dust on the bare floors.

I was looking at the user's manual and got inspired to take the "stick" part off and attach one of the additional cleaning doohickeys and vacuum my stairs. I've always done them with a Swiffer and a damp microfiber towel, but using the vacuum this way I didn't have to crawl up and down the steps to get the dust bunnies.

Today is supposed to be even warmer, so I will probably wash my bedding and hang it outside so I can experience that wonderful moment of climbing into a bed freshly made with line-dried sheets. I'm also looking forward to vacuuming upstairs with my fancy new vacuum. I know I can carry it up the steps without hurting my back or tripping on the vacuum. Spring cleaning two days in a row is kind of a miracle around here, but anything that makes me want to clean is a good thing!

  1. Your curtains look great blowing in the breeze. Glad you were able to find a stick vacuum you like. There's something about Spring temps that make you want to get all the cobwebs and dust out! I may wash the bedroom curtains to hang out today!

  2. I'm glad you're enjoying your new vacuum. Isn't it fun being an adult who gets excited about things like vacuums?! I hope you enjoy your clean sheets tonight and go to sleep with the knowledge that you have a clean house.

  3. Hooray for such great weather, Bonny. It is such a mood booster, isn't it? I'm glad you found a stick vacuum that works for you. Anything that makes cleaning easier is a must. I have been methodically going through rooms and just getting rid of things that must be cleaned off and on for the past year or so. The less there is to clean, the quicker cleaning goes, and the more willing I am to do it. I am contemplating using the House Hushing method for decluttering. At this point, it makes sense to me. I love line washed sheets, but alas, I cannot do that this time of year with my allergies.

  4. New cleaning implements are always exciting . . . at least for a little while. I'm so glad you're being inspired and entertained by your new vacuum! We also enjoyed lovely spring weather yesterday -- and took the opportunity to completely open the house for a good airing. (Gotta take advantage of any inclination toward spring cleaning before the garden work kicks in. . . )

  5. Now I've got vacuum envy. I was hoping my cheap one would die after a year or two so I could upgrade but that little sucker is still going strong and I fill it up with cat hair almost every day.

  7. Line dried sheets - something to look forward to. We still have the cozy ones on the bed, so it'll be a bit. Congratulations on finding a vacuum you're happy with. It's funny how chores are different when you have a new toy.

  8. How nice you found an inexpensive but useful stick vacuum. Saturday I started working on the insides of the kitchen cabinets. It is hard to stay motivated with cleaning and household chores. Freshly laundered curtains are a nice start.

  9. You are inspiring me to buy one! I started washing curtains in the house too but it was during the cold part of winter and I hung them back up wet (they were sheers). It made the house smell so nice!

  10. Sheets on the line have not happened yet here... but soon! Soon! Your vacuum looks excellent as well! (if a cleaning tool can ever be classified as excellent, that is!)
