Unraveled Wednesday: 11/5/25

I’m happily joining Kat and the Unravelers today, with a completed and modeled Rainbow Scarf for Ryan and 75% of the first boot sock for Justin.

There is still a needle in the scarf because I wanted to make sure the length was okay before I bound off. Ryan has deemed the length perfect so I will bind off this week and put the scarf in my Christmas pile o' gifts. I do kind of miss working on it and I have plenty of yarn left, so I might make a scarf for myself some day.

But first there are socks to finish for Justin and then slippers to knit for him. I'm about halfway through the foot on the first sock. It looks slightly odd now, but it is meant to be a tall boot sock and once I finish the foot (almost 12" long) it might look a little more normal, or at least like a normal sock for Bigfoot. I'm going to finish this pair of socks before I start the slippers. This yarn is really rustic wool and it's hard on my hands. I'm afraid if I don't make myself finish the socks first I might never get to the second sock. I have some lovely soft Malabrigo for the slippers and it is going to be a real pleasure to knit.

I only read one book this week and it was a 48-page picture book! I stumbled upon Knight Owl, this charming picture book, loved the homophone word play of the title, and just had to check it out. The illustrations and the story are equally cute and delightful, so do yourself a favor and read it to a young child. (You could also read it yourself like I did, and I'm far from young!)

What are you making and reading this week?

  1. That scarf is just magnificent, Bonny! And I love Ryan modeling it! And wow, go you on those rough and tough boot socks! I bet Justin will love them!! I am off to see if my library has Knight Owl... I am hoping they do because I think it will be the perfect book to read to Winston!

  2. For some reason, I think Ryan looks like a magician (Dumbledore?) modeling his scarf. I'm glad it's been deemed long enough and am amazed you feel like more scarf knitting. Knight Owl is one of my youngest nephew's favorites, and I know there is at least one other book featuring the same character.

  5. Ryan and I agree on the perfect length for a scarf! Long enough to wrap fully up around your neck and tuck into your coat securely. It looks great on him. I really don't enjoy knitting with rough yarn, but I try to make sure it has all the lamb grease still in it if I do. I think that helps. Take care of those hands! I want to thank you for your recommendation on the Martin Walker books. My brother is in the ICU, and they are perfect comfort reading. I want to spend a month at Pamela's B&B!

    1. Thanks! It's from TheYarnJarShop on etsy if anyone is interested, and the colorway is called Rainbow Bash 2.0.

  8. The scarf is perfection, Bonny, and I'm so glad Ryan agrees! You're making good progress on the socks, too. It's wise to let the Malabrigo "marinate" as incentive. It will feel so good after the rough-and-tumble wool you're using for the socks. Knight Owl sounds delightful, so maybe I'll look for a copy soon at my library.

  10. a modeled FO shot is The Best! I saw a bright blue yarn in Jane's post and yours ALSO reminds me of today's sky. I forgot that deep blue is a fall color here. I'm 1-1/2 rows from finishing the knitting on a green shawl with a leaf motif for our newest pastor. Thankfully there are still a few green leaves on the trees around here ... I need to finish this week for sure - more rain and some freezing temperatures are in store for the weekend.

  11. Look at that scarf. It will make the best Christmas gift. A scarf is a lot of knitting but the rainbow yarn must have kept you going. It's always fun to see a modeled project. So thank you to Ryan. The Knight Owl is a very fun book.

  12. The scarf is just as wonderful as I thought it would be and Ryan looks so much like YOU in that photo. I'm off to check out The Knight Owl and perhaps get it for Jackie for Christmas.
