As we approach the end of September, I think it's time for a few bits and pieces.
Making - Grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner. John has been in Montana for the past couple of weeks, and that means I haven't had to cook dinner. It's been a lovely vacation from meal preparation. I can eat what I want, when I want, and that's often a grilled cheese sandwich at 8:00 pm.
Not Looking Forward To - Picking John and Justin up at the airport tomorrow. I'll be glad to see them but their flight is scheduled to arrive at 11:14 pm. That's way past my bed time, and the last time I picked them up from a late flight it arrived more than an hour late. Wish me luck!
Hoping - That the cooler temperatures that are predicted for later this week actually materialize. It's been oddly hot and humid for late September and that makes me unhappy.
Also Hoping - That my dear deer friends, a doe and her two fawns, don't get hit on the road. They visit my yard almost every afternoon and evening to eat the acorns from our oak trees but they are getting dangerously close to our busy street.
Also Watching - Ratatouille! I bought a Blu-Ray copy and once I got three different remotes figured out, it was a charming and entertaining movie. I started the third skein of rainbow yarn but didn't get a lot of knitting done while I was watching. The movie was good enough that it deserved most of my attention.
Ready For - Ragweed pollen season to be over. I'm not sure when that might happen, but it has really bothered me this year.
Grateful For - Sudafed, ibuprofen, and antihistamine eyedrops.
Best new word I've learned - Backpfeifengesicht. It's one of those great German compound words and means "a face in need of a slap" or "a face badly in need of a fist". I fear I may need to use this in the days ahead. There's even a song about it. The lyrics are a bit rude but it is a catchy tune.
How I've felt for much of 2025:
But I hope your week is off to a good start!
Very nice, Bonny! Go you for getting your jabs! (I went a couple of weeks ago as well!!) And I am laughing out loud at backpfeifengesicht... brilliant and timely word! I would add Slow Horses to your Apple TV queue... It is a great show, but at times knitting can be challenging because you are distracted by the show!
ReplyDeleteThank you for several laughs this morning! I got my COVID shot yesterday and will be getting my flu shot last week (I decided to split them up this year because last year I got them together and was horizontal the next day, which I can't afford to do with the puppy this year). I'll also recommend Slow Horses. I just started watching and am really enjoying it. I also think the last season that's available of Ted Lasso was really good, so keep with it through the not-so-great episodes -- it redeems itself!
ReplyDeleteWe had grilled cheese over the weekend (with garden tomato and garden onion on it!). Ugh to a late arriving flight - I usually just book a ride with a car service so that Fletch doesn't need to pick me up. Of course, work used to pay for that, but no more! We love Ted Lasso and Shrinking. We tried Slow Horses, but Fletch didn't enjoy it. We had our Covid boosters in July, but I need to book flue shots for us - thanks for the reminder.
ReplyDeleteI am so ready for ragweed season to be gone as well. I have horrible allergies, but then again, I am also allergic to leaf mold, so if it ever rains again, there's that in the fall. I'm sorry you are suffering. It gets old fast, especially if the treatment has lots of side effects. I loved Ratatouille! And I love the new word, but I will have to figure out how to pronounce it. Once I do, I will be using it several times a day. It is definitely the "are you fing kidding times". It truly feels like things are falling apart, even if they aren't. On a positive note, have a happy Monday, Bonny. We can't let the bastards get us down!!
ReplyDeleteI got my shots on Saturday and was on the couch most of Sunday. But it's done and Tylenol is a fantastic drug. I was just thinking about a grilled cheese sandwich this morning for no reason at all.
ReplyDeleteGirl dinners are the best dinners. If I didn't have to cook for The Mister every night I'd be thin.
ReplyDeleteI've got the jabs on my calendar for later this month. I need the most protection at Christmas when I have to face the germy Grands so I usually wait until closer to Halloween.
I tell myself the same thing about if I didn't have to cook, I'd be thin. But I bet it still wouldn't be true in reality for me!
DeleteI got my 2 shots maybe 2 weeks ago now. Hmm, I didn't think of ragweed, I was feeling off (stuffy, etc) on and off the last 2 weeks. Grilled cheese, yum.
ReplyDeleteGood for you! At least there will be some of us who are vaccinated. The weather I check online gives a pollen count and type and they're the ones who told me that ragweed was high. I just take over the counter meds but if I forget them, then I'm stuffy and have a headache all day.
DeleteSending all the good vibes for that insanely late airport pickup ... and the adjustment to having John home. Here's to October!
