Sometimes Monday ...

... is a good day to quit Duolingo.

I actually stopped effective Friday after I had completed 365 days. I began this one year ago to try to "exercise" my brain in hopes that my cognition wouldn't slip too much as I age, but it's no longer fun. In fact, it's kind of stressful and I'm not sure I'm learning much of anything.

The darn owl has been persistent in badgering me despite turning off all the reminders. Maybe someday he'll finally understand that I've broken up with him and leave me alone. Maybe someday I'll give Duolingo another try with a different language, but for now I'm enjoying Wordle more and that is certainly testing my brain.

I'm breathing a big sigh of relief and feeling quite free this morning; I hope you are also having a good Monday!

  1. I hate those reminders. I love my Calm app but hate how it keeps track of how often I use it. For a program that’s supposed to help you de stress it defeats the purpose when I feel obligated to use it.

    1. I finally found the notifications on Duolingo and got them all turned off. Maybe there is a "no notifications" setting for Calm? It does sound stress-inducing!

  3. I am quite impressed that you did it for 365 days! That's a commitment, Bonny. Yes, definitely quit any optional activities that are stressful. We all have too much stress as it is. Speaking of stress, I got very stressed trying to figure out how to play Wordle!

  4. Wow! A full year is amazing!! But a good idea to stop if it is really stressing you out (and you are not gaining anything from it). I enjoy Wordle and some of the other NYT games. Exercising the little grey cells is a good thing!

  5. I quit when I reached the end of French lessons. Seriously, how do you have an end of lessons? I have no idea if there were more available if I paid, but I wasn't going to find out. I'm sure there are many other ways to keep your brain active!

  6. Good for you! I hate those kind of apps that make you feel like you need to "continue your streak." Because . . . does it really matter? And YAY for Wordle! I love starting my morning with that stupid puzzle. XO

  7. Good for you for sticking with your commitment for a year and BRAVA to you for knowing it was time to stop. I play Wordle, Connections, Strands, and do the mini crossword every morning and I really look forward to it.

  8. Good for you! I like Wordle, but I really like Spelling Bee and love it when I go beyond Genius and get Queen Bee!

    1. And good for you! I've never gotten that far in Spelling Bee but it's worth a try.

  9. Honestly, I always feel better when I quit one of those 'do it every day' things. Now if I can just quit Wordle!
