Sometimes Monday ...

... is a day to wonder what this might mean.

Justin was showing me some "cool quotes" he had saved on Instagram and this was one of them. I'm not exactly sure what it means, but I've found myself thinking about it a lot over the past couple of weeks. Sometimes I wake up wondering what it might mean, and other times it's the last thing I think about before I fall asleep.

In order to stop thinking about it so much, I thought I'd ask, what do you think it might mean? It's a haunting quote and I'd like to have better understanding of it.

Now if this is too much for a Monday morning, how about something a little simpler?

I'm well past midlife but I can definitely get behind knitting, birdwatching, and reading with cats!

Thanks in advance, and I hope you have a good Monday!

  1. I think it is up for interpretation based on individual perspectives. It will be fascinating to see what everyone thinks. In our current environment, I would say it means that we can be molded and shaped to assist in destroying our own kind. It is a very scary truth, and we see evidence of it every day. I agree with the second one. I have skipped calling things crises as it is all blending into the expected daily chaos. Probably why I have stopped watching and reading as much news as I did in the past. In that vein, happy Monday, Bonny. A very interesting query.

  2. I think the quote goes on to say, "until they were all cut down". Which echos Becky's thoughts. It reminds me of the frog in the pot of water... it is too late before it realizes the danger.

On a brighter tree note (and an excellent listen while you are knitting!) Robin Wall Kimmerer wrote a new essay for Emergence Magazine. It is lovely, and reverent, and the best almost 30 minutes I spent yesterday: https://emergencemagazine.org/essay/becoming-earth/

  3. Tom taught me that quote many years ago . . . I have always thought it meant pretty much what Becky said. But I don't know for sure. I like quotes that make me think . . .

  4. I like the quote and I'm sure I have no idea what it means but I like to ponder about it.

  5. As someone who lives surrounded by giant trees, I don't like the idea of them whispering at all.

    1. Your trees don't whisper; they yell, loudly!

  6. That is certainly a quote to make you think! I wonder if it means something to the effect that we can be our own worst enemies. As for the other one, substitute "dog" for "cats" and I'm already there!

  7. I think it just means that the axe handle was made from a tree!😄

  8. I think it means we are complicit in our own destruction. Not a cheery thought but there you go.
