Unraveled Wednesday: 8/23/23

I'm joining Kat and fellow Unravelers today, with two new projects. I cast on my second Hitch on the Move and knit just a couple of triangles to make sure that I still liked the yarn pairing. I do, and I have plenty of yarn so I'll be able to make this one large enough to make me happy.

I've been knitting a lot more on my Captain Ahab Hitchhiker and I think I can see a very slight shift in the shade of blue.

The yarn goes through blue while transitioning to shades of brown, so I keep on knitting to see what's coming next.

I haven't finished any books this week other than Invisible Women which I wrote about on Monday. I blame all the beans, zucchini, cucumbers, chard, and tomatoes that have needed to be blanched, frozen, cooked, and processed into yet more tomato juice and pickles. I may be giving dill pickles to everyone on my list for Christmas this year.

I am rereading The Firm in anticipation of a sequel (The Exchange) from John Grisham that will be released in mid-October. I used to enjoy John Grisham novels decades ago, and while this will probably be the only one I re-read, it's a good book to listen to while I happily knit with Captain Ahab.

What are you making and reading this week?

  1. Your new Hitch on the Move is FUN Bonny - great yarn choices. And I can definitely see a shift in the blues in your Ahab Hitchhiker. I had forgotten all about Grisham (I used to read his books decades ago too). I'm reading "Horse" by Geraldine Brooks and really enjoying it.

  2. That's a fun combination you've picked out for your next HOTM! Should we expect you to now have two Martina Behm shawls on the needles at any given moment?

I finally got around to reading Enchantment by Katherine May yesterday (yes, I read it all in one day) after buying it months ago when it came out. I'm reading titles from the Booker longlist on paper and trying to decide what my next ebook should be.

  3. Oh, I love Sarah's HOTM anacronym!! And I think you have selected excellent yarns for this! I thought that the perfect place to go after Tom Lake was the south of France... completely different in all things! The avalanche broke last night... 3 titles overnight. Sigh. I have picked 2 and pushed the third back a few weeks.

  4. I am smitten with your Captain Ahab Hitchhiker, Bonny. That blue is gorgeous -- and I love the subtle shift in color you're getting! Your HOTM is going to be great, too. Love those colors together. (As I'm knitting my own, I'm glad I have plenty of yarn and don't need to worry about running short as I make it slightly bigger than the one in the directions.) (I'm hoping big enough???) I took a break from reading while my sister was here last week, so I can't quite remember WHAT I'm reading right now. . .

    1. I put it on hold at the library, and am amazed at how long the queue is when the book isn't even published for another seven weeks!

  9. I love the shades of blue in your Captain Ahab Hitchhiker, simply gorgeous! I also like the color combo of your Hitch On The Move. After a couple months of not much knitting, I am back at it with a couple of baby hats and a Close To You shawl on the needles.
The past week has been so hot and humid that I've been staying inside and getting a lot of reading done. I finished A Spell of Good Things yesterday, started Wandering Souls, and should be getting my library hold for Old God's Time in the next day or two.

    1. Thanks, Debbie! I figured the yarns would work together because I knit a Match and Move with them. I really liked the yarns together, but the shawl is not my favorite. I'm hoping this HotM looks better and ends up much bigger, but I find myself focusing on Captain Ahab to see what comes next.

We have some nice temperatures here (for August) for the next few days. I hope your weather gets more fall-like, but at least you've been getting some good reading done!

  11. I am happy to see the Captain Ahab make an appearance. I can see the subtle shift in color. I like it. The newest cast hints at fall. It's coming right? Your garden is producing like crazy. Dill pickles as a Christmas gift sounds like a fabulous idea. Wasn't there a fad of metallic dill pickle ornaments awhile back? You can start a new holiday tradition.

  12. ooohh, that second Hitch on the Move looks great - love the stripey yarn! and yay for all the garden bounty you're putting up to enjoy this winter. I had no idea John Grisham was still writing; I LOVED those books back in the day, too.
