I Didn't Find It At the Grocery Store

My SiL's birthday is this week, so I spent some time wondering what to get her. I wanted it to be somewhat useful, small enough that I could possibly drop it off on her porch or mail it, and something she would enjoy. I finally decided on a gift card from the grocery store she shops at. This is Giant in PA, and even though I shop at the same grocery store in NJ (where it's called Stop and Shop), their gift cards are not interchangeable. This meant I would need to make an hour-long drive to PA, but there was a day last week with no snow, only partial cloudiness, and nothing pressing that I had to do, so I planned my outing. The more I thought about it, the more excited I got. Maybe they would have something new and different! Maybe I would have a fun outing! So off I went ...

Over the river,

and through the woods,

to Giant.

They had the same creepy robot that roams my store, and just like at my store, it felt like it was following me. I can't figure out what purpose it is supposed to serve, except maybe to get in the way of customers. It does that well.

I did see an alarmingly large number of Peeps, all different colors and flavors. (Really, Hot Tamales?)

In the end, I got the gift card I went for, some apples, and also found out that the McDonald's next to this Giant grocery store does not have spicy chicken nuggets. Ryan is able to get them in CO, and has been encouraging me to try them, but no luck so far. So despite my hopes, I did not find excitement at the grocery store, although I did have some fun. The bar for fun has been drastically lowered, but I can still seek out those spicy chicken nuggets in MD. Then I'll be having big fun! :-)

  1. The way the weather has been lately, an outing sounds really great! Those Peeps - yuk! I don't like the originals, so those really sounds horrible. Here's to a much improved week for everybody and finding spicy chicken nuggets.

  2. Big Fun - LOL I, too, do not like the creepy robot at Giant (where I sometimes shop too). It is an annoying thing that is ALWAYS in my way. My big fun yesterday was getting loin lamb chops at 30% off at Acme! Woo-Hoo!!

  4. Okay. That robot is seriously creepy! (We don't have one at my grocery store.) (Thankfully.) But I think Hot Tamale Peeps might be creepier. Certainly grosser. So glad you enjoyed your outing -- and hope you find some spicy chicken nuggets soon! XO

(Okay. What can possibly be the point of the robot????)

  5. That certainly is one creepy robot! I have no idea if we have any like that (I haven't been to the supermarket since last summer).

I've been known to enjoy a Peep or two in the past, but as far as I'm concerned, the best use for them is putting them in the microwave and watching them blow up.

  6. That robot is really creepy! What is its purpose?

  7. Ugh, Marty! Jackie used to be completely terrified of him every time Jess took him to Stop & Shop. Peeps are meant to be yellow. And that's it.

  8. Our Giant also has the annoying robot, which is a regular topic of discussion at Knit Night. We knitters think we could work together as a pack and take it down.

  9. Ew. Weird robot... that would be a big turn-off for me! Do you think it has some sort of surveillance system? Yuck.

Those Spicy McNuggets are probably one of McD's "for a limited time" deals, possibly in specific markets. I don't know why I'm aware that they do that, but I am... and they do.

  10. That robot... what on earth? LOL (and those peeps... hmm, I wonder if I could find some of those to send to my son!)

  11. Glad you were able to get a gift card for your SIL. One of the Walmarts out here has one of those robots. I think it has something to do with sanitizing items on the shelves with UV lighting. Not sure though. They are weird. Hope you have a good week.

  12. I am glad you had a little outing. Isn't it amazing how little it takes to entertain us these days? I am almost giddy at the thought of my once every two week shopping trip to Trader Joe's. Of course Starbucks is just down the street and I usually go through the drive through on my way home which doesn't hurt. I don't think I'd like that robot thing either. I have never heard of or seen one and I'd like to keep it that way.

  13. I'll have to ask my Peeps experts what they think about Hot Tamale! (I am NOT a peep person and of course they eat them stale.) Looks like a fun adventure and your s-i-l is a lucky lady!

  14. I kind of love the idea of a mini-road trip for a "good reason" ... a change of scenery in ANY form is good for the soul. (I have NO idea about those robots, but I don't get out much)
