So Far, So Good

In NJ we can track our mail-in ballots. I wonder if this is available in other states? Anyway, I decided to check the website and see what it said. So far, so good.

My ballot has been received by the County Board of Elections. I did chuckle about the received date; I mailed it at the post office on September 18 where I watched the clerk put it directly into the Board of Elections box. The received date is four days later on September 22, but the Board of Elections is only about 50 steps away from the post office. But a ballot status of received is a good thing no matter when it happened.

In August, the governor of NJ issued an executive order stating that mail-in ballots can begin to be counted 10 days before Election Day, so I will check again later in October or early November looking for a ballot status of accepted. Ballots have to be received in NJ by November 10th, so I'm already trying to curb my anticipation and practice patience in waiting for the all-important results.

  1. We can track our mail in ballots here in MA, too. I haven't decided yet whether I'm voting by mail or voting early. I'm at Town Hall so frequently that voting early would be pretty simple. And even if I vote by mail I will deliver my completed ballot directly to the Town Clerk.

  2. I just checked yesterday and our status is "pending." We have not yet received ballots, but in our county they were only mailed last Thursday and Friday. I checked on line first and then called just to double check!

  3. We also have trackable ballots. My husband mailed ours yesterday (we were going to drop them off at the county elections office, but then my brother told us he'd mailed his and it was received and processed in one day). I'm trying not to constantly check because I know it'll take a day or two to move, but I'll feel much better when I know it's been received!

  4. Good for you! We are all mail-in here in Utah and they aren't sending our ballots out until next week! I wish I had mine right now, but we plan to mark ours and hand carry them to the county election office downtown. I don't know if we can track our ballots. I will have to research that. Thanks for this post. Let's pray for a GOOD outcome to this elections.

  5. P.S. I just looked it up on Google and yes, apparently we CAN track our ballots in Utah, so that is good. Thanks for the heads up on this!

  6. We can track our ballots here in Michigan, too. (I started tracking mine the day they were mailed.) I'm voting absentee because . . . I'll be working the polls on election day.

  7. We can track ours here in TN, but we have not received them yet. I am a little concerned since we requested them a long time ago. I emailed the clerk, and she said they are still mailing them out. If I don't get one, I don't know what my recourse is at this point. The amount of voter suppression that is going on is horrible. Good for you that yours is where is should be! BTW, I noticed that you had added Monogamy to your queue. I hope you like it much better than I do. It has been a slog from the beginning. I am about 80 pages away from the ending, but I have not decided yet if I can finish it. It seems a shame not to finish it, but it is deadly dull and full of self-inflicted angst. Let me know how you like it.

    1. I've got friends in Germany and Sweden that say the same thing, but I fear that it might really be amazement at the stupidity, ignorance, and big fat, deadly mess we've created in the US. Here's hoping this election goes differently!

  9. It's going to be interesting! We are going to the polls and I do wonder what the lines will be like. I've got my name out there to volunteer too if necessary!

  10. I will have to see if we can track our Ne. ballots. They arrived. The local voter's guide by the League of Women Voters comes out tomorrow so I will be marking my ballot tomorrow. Then we will drop them off at the office of the election commission. I like to read about local obscure races (airport authority - judges to be retained, etc.) in the guide.

  11. We can track ours as well, but mail-in/absentee ballots cannot be counted until after the polls close on Nov. 3... which is just a disaster, imo

  12. Im so glad you brought this up. We brought ours over to the ballot slot today. The town hall was closed by 4. Small Town. Limited hours.
I wondered why my husband got his ballot with a stamp for return on it. Mine did not. Also the ballot hole was so big anyone could reach in and take them. I don't like this. We need consistency.!!! But the fact that we can trace it makes me feel better.

  13. if only they'd put at least a bit of the effort they put into tracking the on-line ballots into making them more accessible and then counting them in a way that didn't make the election end up in the supreme court. at least you'll be able to tell if your vote goes awry!

  14. Our ballots will arrive this week and you can bet they'll be out the door that very day. We have a drop off box near by and I'll be checking to see when (if) it arrives. Utah has had mail-in ballots for 4-5 years so we're old hands!
