Unraveled Wednesday

Joining Kat and friends for Unraveled Wednesday. In the race between me and the weather, the Sockhead Cowl and I lost. Well, not exactly lost, but last week I thought that if I knit really fast, I could finish this and wear it during the frigid temperatures we're currently experiencing. It's 13 degrees this morning which would have been great weather to wear it for a walk and try it out, but I'm fairly sure we'll have cold weather again, whether this winter or next.

I did finish my baby socks and even John said that they were cute. (He does not often comment on my knitting nor use the word cute.) With two snowstorms in three days last weekend, I didn't get to visit my niece and deliver them, but that will hopefully happen this upcoming weekend.

I'm currently reading/listening to three books (see "currently reading" in the right-hand sidebar if you're interested), and even though each one is interesting in its own way, I haven't made much progress in the last week. I think I was too busy knitting, shoveling, cooking, and maybe even practicing a little balance to get much reading done.

What are you making and reading this week?

  1. The socks are really cute! And I have no doubt that your cowl will get plenty of wear, whether it's this winter or future winters.

I'm still reading Michelle Obama's book (I'm more than halfway through), but yesterday I got "Us Against You" from the library, so I'm focusing on that at the moment.

  3. oh those socks!!! I'm in a weird place with books right now - listening to a lot of podcasts and making very slow progress with Becoming Mrs. Lewis (for church bookclub in a few months). and you remind me that I've been neglecting Goodreads! (p.s. I tweaked a setting in Safari and can comment again ... I'm not sure how my change made this work ... but it did!)

  4. Love those socks Bonny - they really are CUTE!! And your sockhead cowl will serve you well - either this year (hoping not), nor next winter. It won't spoil or go bad - lol. The Hunting Party looks good - will be looking forward to your rating/review. I'm reading The Library Book and so far, really enjoying it (about a third of the way through).

  6. The baby socks are so darling (and CUTE!). I feel certain you'll have a chance or two to wear the cowl. It looks very warm and perfect to keep the snowflakes off your head.

I'm reading An Orchestra of Minorities by Chigozie Obioma, a Nigerian author. The book is an epic story of one mans folly and downfall. I'm learning about Nigerian ways of old as their folk stories dot the pages. What is the cost of selling your history? I am enthralled, enrapt and heavy of heart. The story is stunning.

  7. The blue of your Sockhead hat is SO rich. I'm thinking there is still time THIS winter to wear a hat.

  9. Those socks! Those socks are the things that new mothers dream of. They make me smile. I finished Becoming, and I certainly enjoyed it, though memoirs are not my thing. Now reading Sweet Lamb of Heaven and really enjoying it. My sockhead is lying there staring at me and feeling neglected.

  12. Both your knitted pieces are lovely...and the little baby feet will feel right at home in those pink socks. Too cute. Love the cowl too...looks great against the couch. I'm in a sort-of reading slump...doing a lot of dipping in/out and gathering titles...
    Cheers~
