Three on Thursday

Joining Carole and friends for Three on Thursday, today with three things about Unravel, the yarn video game. I'm not much of a gamer, but I did play Guild Wars with the goal of getting my character to Level 80. Once I had done that, it became overly time-consuming and complicated. Justin thought that I needed a nice simple game that we could both play and he settled on Unravel.

1.  It's actually a decent game for me. It was designed by a Swedish company, and has dream-like scenes set in nature, beautiful music, without car crashes or shooting. Your character, Yarny, is on a quest to explore the world around him. He unravels as you move through the game, and finding more yarn for him is one of the things you have to think about.

2.  The rest of the game involves using yarn to climb and build bridges to fly a kite, avoid crabs, and solve puzzles to enable Yarny to move through his environment.

3.  It sounds much easier than it really is, and I'm going to have to practice a bit to get comfortable with the Xbox controller. I figure that maybe playing video games might be my hedge against Alzheimer's. It's about as close as a video game is going to get to knitting, and thoroughly delightful!

Head on over to Carole's for more Three on Thursday.

  2. hunh ... I had no idea there was a video game that used yarn! I must say, it does look a bit stressful ... except for that photo :-)

  3. That's so cute! I am not much of a video game person (I was really only ever good at things like Tetris -- never could figure out how to do the character games), but this looks like fun!

  4. It does look cool. and Yarn!! But, I'm not a video gamer either (I do Soduko a lot as my hedge). Still, I love the character.

  5. Steve is an avid gamer and we tried Yarny - however, my gaming skills are sorely lacking and he said he would not torture me (really, him) by playing it. My gamer skills began and ended with Pokemon Snap and I played it all the time with Sam when he was much younger!! (He was 3... I was 30, lol)

  6. OH. MY. WORD! Yarny is adorable!

  7. That does NOT sound like an easy game. I feel I would lose track of all time (as I did when I went through a gaming streak years ago) and never be seen again. However, Yamy looks like a fun companion!

  8. No XBox here, so I cannot partake of Yarny, but it sounds like a great fun. I love your way of staving off Alzheimers!

  9. Oh my goodness, that's so cute!! We don't have an Xbox, either (though I've briefly considered getting one a few times).

  10. Yarny looks like fun, but I am sure it isn't easy. I am not a gamer, but I have thought about trying some since research does show that it keeps older folks brains sharper. No Xbox, so no yarny, I reckon. And the best part is that your son want to play a game with you!

  11. We are a game free household as well. We did buy a PS something once but I don't believe there are 10 playing hours on it. We still have it if you want it! :-)

  12. Both of my kids (and their spouses) are Gamers with capital Gs. They have tried to get me to try Yarny. I am SO BAD at video games. Just . . . really bad. But it is cute enough that I may be motivated to try . . . next time I visit one of them. Enjoy!

  13. The pictures you captured are quite lovely. I have never played a video game more advanced than Atari pong.

    1. I'm pretty bad at the game, and have drowned Yarny quite a few times, but it is fun to at least give it a try!
