I've Got This Covered

And by covered, I mean my Book Bingo card (complete with notes and scribbles). The last time I wrote specifically about what I was reading for Book Bingo was way back at the end of June, so I'm just going to list the books I've read since then with links to goodreads so you can further explore anything that might sound good to you.

The Chalk Artist - About art/artists2 stars

Bambi's Children - Backlist from an author you read for another square, 5 stars

Salt, Acid, Fat, Heat - About food, 3 stars

I Contain Multitudes - Borrowed, 3 stars

Invisible Emmie - Graphic novel, 4 stars

A Full Life - Recommended by a family member, 4 stars

The Hate U Give - Free square, 4 stars

Rain Reign - An author from the state where you live, 4 stars

Whispers Under Ground - Already own, 4 stars

Grief Cottage - That you want to read because of the cover, 4 stars

Broken Homes - An author from a country you've never visited, 4 stars

The Simpsons and Their Mathematical Secrets - Wanted to read for more than a year, 4 stars

Magpie Murders - More than 500 pages, 3 stars

Safe as Houses - Collection of short stories, 4 stars

How Not to be Wrong - Re-read, 5 stars

Where the Water Goes - About nature, 5 stars

The Last Days of Night - Historical fiction, 3 stars

You can also see all the books in one place on my goodreads Book Bingo 2017 shelf here. If I had to pick favorites, they would be Bambi (thank you, Debbie!) and Where the Water Goes, both 5 stars and wonderful books, each in its own way.

It was a good summer of reading, and I want to thank Mary for organizing Summer Book Bingo 2017 and giving many readers (myself included) lots of enthusiasm for summer reading.

So what's next? Lots of books, lots of choices! I'm leaning towards The Resurrection of Joan Ashby, but there is also A House Among the Trees, or maybe The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay? What a delightful dilemma to choose my next book!

Wishing everyone a wonderful (and hopefully long) weekend, hopefully with a little time for some good reading!

Summer Book Bingo ... So Far

Mary's Summer Book Bingo started May 27, so I thought it was time for an update after a month of reading. I've finished eight books, am currently reading three, and am still enjoying looking for the ideal books to fill my remaining squares. I've added my star ratings below, but since your mileage may vary, I've linked to the goodreads book description so you can judge for yourself it it's a book that might interest you.

Moments of Seeing - 4 stars

Option B - 4 stars, and I was surprised I liked it as much as I did.

Bambi - 5 stars; this is one of my favorites so far.

Moon Over Soho - 4 stars

Chemistry - 3 stars

Before Green Gables - 3 stars, nothing compares to the original.

Mercies in Disguise - 3 stars

The Verdict - 2 stars, ugh! (But thriller is just not my genre.)

Currently Reading:

The Chalk Artist - I thought this book was mainly about a chalk artist, but it's taken a crazy turn to include virtual reality and video gaming; I have no clue where it will end up.

Bambi's Children - Because I loved Bambi so much, I had to find a way to include this one in Book Bingo. I'm very grateful that I have the "Backlist from an author you read for another square" square!

Whispers Under Ground - Book 3 in the Rivers of London series; Ryan assures me it's one of the best.

Book Bingo runs through September 4, so we've all got plenty of time. I'm glad of that because I have the "More than 500 pages" square on my card and plan on reading Centennial (with 909 pages). I've started it twice before but never been able to get very far into it, so I hope the third time is the charm.

If you've read anything really good lately, I'd love to hear about it. I hope everyone is finding some time to enjoy a bit of summer reading whether it's for Book Bingo or not. A hammock or porch swing is even more enjoyable with a cold beverage and a good book!

Unraveled Wednesday

Joining Kat and friends for Unraveled Wednesday.

On the knitting front, I'm working on a Hitchhiker and a sock, steadily but very s-l-o-w-l-y. I'm busy with work (literally out standing in fields) and outside work here at home, so knitting has taken a back seat as the weather has warmed.

My reading has slowed down also. I'm listening to Midnight Riot and Before Green Gables on my ipod, and while they're both enjoyable, neither one is a page-turner. What I have been doing is some planning for Mary's Summer Book Bingo. Here is my card:

I've been putting book possibilities for my squares on my goodreads book bingo 2017 shelf:

In the next few days, I'm going to sit down with my printed card and start penciling some of these book titles into squares so I can see where I stand, what books I need to look for at the library, and what squares I still need books for. We can really start reading at any time, as any book you finish between May 27 and September 4 will count for Book Bingo. So, any suggestions for books that will make me a better person? I welcome all your ideas for this interesting square (and any other suggestions for must-reads that you would like to make)!

What are you reading and knitting this week?
