Not for Mark

John and his brother Mark visit each other every few weeks. Sometimes John goes over to Mark's house in PA, and sometimes Mark comes here to NJ. They talk about deer and other assorted manly topics and spend a few hours together. I often offer Mark lunch when it gets to be that time, but he rarely takes me up on it. He does, however, like my candy dish.

This is just a dish from my grandmother that I like and what better thing to keep in it than candy. It did have some Hershey kisses and two Reese's peanut butter eggs in it. Sometime after Mark left last Sunday, John asked me if I ate the last peanut butter eggs. I had not; in fact, I was kind of saving them for later. We figured out that Mark must have eaten them. While I don't begrudge Mark a few pieces of candy, I was a little sad that I no longer had any.

So I made some.  It's really just the taste of peanut butter and chocolate that I wanted, so I used this simple recipe. I had all five of the ingredients; it's relatively simple to make, and doesn't require any baking. Clean up was a little messy but it was just two bowls, a few spoons, and a measuring cup.

I sliced them up into small portions and I'll be storing them in the refrigerator. I doubt Mark will go in there to eat my peanut butter and chocolate confections, but it makes enough that I might even offer him a few pieces the next time he's here.

It's been quite a week here, but now I can enjoy some homemade chocolate and peanut butter bars. I think they're even better than drinking!

  1. Well, this looks delicious, Bonny! I sent "peanut butter bunnies" to my grandkids but I might have to make this recipe as an Easter Treat for us this weekend!

  2. Looks delicious, and I would not be surprised if they were better than the Reese's. I hope things there have settled down and everyone is back in their place for a happy weekend.

  3. I guess you're not counting on any of us coming over and raiding your fridge! Those look really delicious and like the perfect treat for me. I'm bookmarking the recipe so that I can make some for myself when I'm no longer watching a puppy all hours of the day.

  4. Looks yummy! There are peanut butter eggs at work -- and I've had a couple. ;) I prefer the ratio of pb : chocolate of a regular peanut butter cup, though; the eggs don't have enough chocolate. I suppose, if I made my own, I could make them exactly as I like!!

  5. My mom used to make those for us when I was a little girl, and I ADORED them. I always swore I'd make them all the time for myself when I was grown up, and y'know . . . I never have!!! I think it's time I whip up a batch . . .

  7. Oh, my goodness. They look delicious! I have a nut allergy so I can't do peanut butter but I've always wondered how chocolate would taste with my soynut butter. I may have to give it a try.

  8. The peanut butter chocolate confection looks terrific and easy - even better. And I am sure they are way better than drinking.

  9. Chocolate and peanut butter is such a wonderful combination, good for you for making these and I bet they are better anyway! I made a dessert for today that's chocolate, peanut butter and pretzels. It's a new one but I think it will be well received.

  10. those look even better than a foil-wrapped, store-bought version - and much tastier than the news! I'm still working away at the stash of Christmas cookies I froze back in January. and looking forward to some non-Christmas cookie baking ... maybe in May?!
