Museum of Me: July 2023

This month The Museum of Me takes a road trip! The museum staff was tasked with putting together a soundtrack for a day in your life. The day they chose is this coming Thursday, when we head to northern Pennsylvania to visit John's sister and her husband for a few days. My BiL has an old TR4 that belonged to his father and it's been sitting in his garage for at least 20 years. John had a brain fart and thought it might be fun to try and get it running, so that's what we're doing. Never mind that John has an old Jeep sitting in our garage that barely runs; apparently, it's more fun to try and fix other people's vehicles. But I always like spending time with John's sister so I'm looking forward to reading in the hammock, visiting junk/antique stores, and maybe even having some people to play Cards Against Humanity with since John refuses to play games.

But since we're taking a road trip of at least 220 miles, that calls for a playlist. Here's what the museum staff has come up with.

Many of these songs are self-explanatory. Pennsylvania because that's where we're going; Allentown because we go past the exits for that city: East Bound and Down because John likes that stupid song, and the rest of them because I like them and I'm in charge of this playlist. Many of these are simply good summer songs that are great to sing along with.

Thanks to the museum staff for putting this together. The playlist is about an hour long and that ought to be long enough to entertain me along with some car knitting, reading, looking at the scenery, and asking if we're almost there yet.

Thanks for visiting The Museum of Me. I hope you have plenty of car tunes on your own road trip playlist to play and sing along with wherever you're heading this summer! We'll be back on the second Friday of August with a brand-new installation.

  1. I hope that you have a good trip -- sounds like you've got some good things planned to make the best of the time while John is tinkering!

  2. What a great playlist for a road trip, Bonny! And . . . it sounds like you're going to have a great time once you arrive, too. Reading in a hammock and spending time with your sister-and-brother-in-law sound perfect!!! XO

  3. Have a great trip. I've only played Cards Against Humanity once. It was a riot (and a bit awkward since our son was also playing, but I just let the honest-to-goodness answers rip anyway. He's 40. He can handle it. LOL)

I am in the process of putting music on my MP3 player for our trip in October. Allentown will definitely be on there (Penna) and the Armadillo Song (an homage to our time in Florida). LOL

Safe travels and see you soon!

  4. This is brilliant, Bonny! Just brilliant! (also do you think we could send Steve and John on vacation together... and then you and I could do something FUN!) Have a safe trip into PA (will you drive on our amazingly fixed road?) I hope the antique shops have a treasure or two... and that you find some game participants! XO

  5. What fun (minus the tinkering...)!! And, I love your playlist. I'm really enjoying seeing what everyone is putting together and finding new songs to enjoy or being reminded of songs I had forgotten about! Have a wonderful trip and enjoy your time away!!

  8. What a fun exhibit, perfectly timed for your trip! I've been reading Andrew Krivak's Darden trilogy (have we talked about that? I think not, but apologies if I've already mentioned it) and the NE PA landscape he describes is one I've only encountered briefly (if at all), when Sara and I drove to NYC from Madison in 2017. In any event, the mountains sound beautiful, and I hope you get there quickly and enjoy your visit!

  9. It is fun to see the music chosen by this month's exhibitors. American Pie feels like a classic. I don't think I've ever heard the Pennsylvania song but will have to find it as I have a cousin who lives there.
