Unraveled Wednesday: 4/6/2022

I'm joining Kat and fellow Unravelers for Unraveled Wednesday, with a little bit more progress on the cabled yoke of the Antler cardigan. Except ...

when I was looking at the photo, I noticed that I had done something wonky with the end of the third cable in the middle of the picture. It looks like I might have held the cable needle in the front when it should have been in the back. So that means tinking back to my mistake and fixing it. I think it's just three or four rows back, so hopefully, I'll have it fixed and be able to move on in a relatively short time.

It might be Paul Simon's fault. I finally finished listening to The Sentence this week, and also read The Violin Conspiracy. Both were four-star books for me, and then I got the notification that it was my turn for Miracle and Wonder from the library. I anxiously checked it out and started listening. This isn't exactly a memoir or even a book, but the title says it's Conversations with Paul Simon and that's exactly what it is. Malcolm Gladwell and Bruce Headlam ask Paul Simon questions and then shut up, allowing Paul to speak uninterrupted about his creativity, curiosity, influences, songs, and collaborations. I haven't listened to much of Paul Simon's music since Graceland but I will be remedying that. First, I'm going to re-listen to this conversation and fix the wonky cable. Even if it is Paul Simon's fault, it was well worth it.

What are you making and reading this week?

  1. I hope that you do not have to rip back but can drop down three or four rows to right the wrong, fingers crossed. It is a beautiful piece of knitting!!!

  2. I am off to find Miracle and Wonder! I love Paul Simon and I think this book is the exact thing I need this month! :)

And good luck tinking back on your cardigan. I found an error in the lacework on my Tegna... I think I k2tog instead of ssk... sigh. However, I am not tinking back.

  3. I just adored Miracle and Wonder. And I've been re-listening to Paul Simon's music ever since I finished the "book" (which is more like a really well-done podcast, I'm thinking). And - ugh - I always mess up the cables when I knit cables. (You might be able to drop down and fix that . . . since it's stockinette it wouldn't be too tricky . . . ) XO

  4. You don't need to tink back all 4 rows - you can just ladder down the columns that contain the miscrossed cable. Many videos await your attention! And if you mess up, THEN you can rip back all those rows....but I predict you won't have to.

  5. Miracle and Wonder might just be the book to convince me to do an audio book! And...I'm thinking it might be a fun one for Fletch and me to listen to together after dinner (giving us a break from reading out loud!). Your sweater looks lovely Bonny. I'm sorry about the messed up cable. Hope it's an easy fix!!

  6. I will definitely re-read/-listen to Miracle & Wonder and I can't wait for more audiobooks from Malcolm Gladwell & Bruce Headlam!!

I would also drop down the rows just in that section... fixing a wonky cable like that is not very difficult, especially in stockinette. But I also get the tinking. I did that instead of ripping almost a dozen rows on my blanket panel the other day. It was meditative.

  7. I know you could fix that mistake by dropping down, but if you would rather tink, then by all means, tink! Sometimes I just don't want to think that much. I can't wait to see your finished sweater, Bonny. It is going to be lovely. I am a Malcolm Gladwell fan and a Paul Simon fan, so I will look for this.

  8. That looks like a pretty easy cable to fix, and you don't even need to tink back -- if you drop just half the stitches in the cable (just drop them to the point of the cable crossing and put them on the cable needle so they don't drop any further), you can ease them under the stitches they went over by mistake and then ladder them back up with a crochet hook or Handi tool. A bit fiddly but probably faster than unraveling back the entire sweater those few rounds!

I'm currently working on a sock, though I'm planning to start on my sweater sleeves shortly. And while I started Young Mungo, I then got a notification from the library that The Books of Jacob was ready for me, so I'll be deep into that for a while!

    1. Thanks, Debbie! I was able to tink back and correct my mistakes (I found another one!) last night, and maybe this will teach me the difference between c4b and c4f!

  10. I'm going to listen to Miracle & Wonder when I finish The Sum of Us, which is my current listen. I am looking forward to something lighter, for sure! Your yoke is looking wonderful and I think that mistake should be an easy fix.

  11. The sweater looks so pretty against the little purple flowers. I hope the cable is an easy fix and not too painful.

I've been doing a lot of frogging this week.
