Unraveled Wednesday

Joining Kat and friends for Unraveled Wednesday, and it turns out that traveling is good for finished objects. I'll gloss over the fact that both of these were about 75% finished before I flew to CO, but now they are officially done.

First, there was a Rikke Hat for Ryan.

This was a fun knit, and after Ryan tried it on, I was able to easily finish it while we played Scrabble. I picked out some yarn from my stash for two more Rikkes for Christmas gifts, and I might even knit one for myself.

The third Wollmeise John Deere Hitchhiker also reached the finish line. I think it might be my favorite, or it will be when it's dry and I can wear it. It's blocking right now,  but luckily I have a few other Hitchhikers to wear in the meantime.

I also cast on with my Sunset yarn. I had spent hours perusing Ravelry for the perfect shawl pattern, but after dithering for far too long without anything on my needles, I gave in and cast on yet another Hitchhiker (big surprise!) So far, I like it and these colors are helping me feel warm and happy during these grey, blustery, and snowy days.

I didn't do a lot of reading but managed to finish A Circle of Quiet (four lovely stars) and started listening to Solar (I'm still reserving judgment). But Roger Allam is the narrator so I'm definitely enjoying that!

What are you making and reading this week?

  1. It's fun to be a Hitchhiker junkie, isn't it. I love your new one. I have had "add the YOs" in mind for my next Hitchhiker but decided not to do it because the yarn has a bit of silk and I want to let it shine. But next time. Are you doing it on row 6 as someone on Rav recommended?

    1. I'm now knitting Rikke hats in addition to Hitchhikers, but I love being a Hitchhiker junkie. Even though it's the same pattern, each one is different, and I wear one almost every day in the fall and winter. I'm doing the yo, k2tog on Row 8, but am going to take a look through projects on Ravelry to see what it looks like on Row 6.

  2. Both finished projects look great, but I am really loving the new Hitchhiker!

Roger Allam as a narrator, eh? I would happily listen to him read the phone book.

  3. I love the finished projects one and all! I could use a Rikke hat for walking so I am happy to hear it is a quick knit!

And your new Hitchhiker is going to be a stunner - that is truly an awesome colorway!

  7. You did get a lot done in Colorado! And we had more snow on Monday!, or was it on Sunday? I have never knitted The Hitchhiker, though I know it is very popular here, Ill have to give it a go soon.
My computer crashed over the weekend and of course I lost a lot of information. As soon as I find the group that is distributing blankets on the border I'll get that info to you. I haven't commented on Just Mercy this week due to computer issues, sorry. Have a great week.

  9. Well, I can tell you what I'm wearing this week! Lots of hand knit socks that now have a rubber bottom that means I wont slip! I am wearing my brown vest with buttons and I like it! I have a long sleeve thick cotton shirt under it so no itch factor!
    I am knitting a shawl . .....

  10. I really like the Rikke hat pattern. It's very popular around here -- I see it on the streets in Kalamazoo quite often. Someday . . . I'll knit one for myself! Love your Hitchhikers. I can't say that I'm surprised that you've started a sunset Hitchhiker! It's going to be perfect (why mess with a good thing?) -- and I love the eyelets.

  11. Your finishes are great...I especially like the new hitchhiker's colorway...May Ryan wear his new warm hat in good health. I'm starting the next 5 chapters of Just Mercy this weekend!

  12. The Rikke hat looks great and warm. I do love your hitchhikers. I have one that I need to wear this winter for sure. If you had a good time with your son and I think you did and helped him shop for a car, I'd say you got the most important things finished. The knitting finishes are the icing on the cake.

  13. That hat is still in Colorado, right? I'm sure Ryan's getting lots of wear already!

and I hereby commit that 2020 will be the year I finally knit a Hitchhiker ... because every one you share is just so pretty.

and finally - Circle of Quiet is on the short list of next-ups for my small group. I want to read all of her non-fiction!!

  15. Your John Deer Hitchhiker is the best of all! The colors and the way you styled it are make it look quite artsy and exciting. The eyelets on the Sunset Hitchhiker look very chic. Rikke hats are the rage here, too. It's the style of hat I like as it doesn't hug the head too tightly. I must get one on the needles! I'm reading too many books. :)
