Scenes From the Weekend

We had our family Cookie Day on Saturday, and I think it was a rousing success. We each bring  a couple kinds of dough or baked cookies, and after everything is done, we split them up and go home with a large variety of cookies. The first year we met at my SiL's house, we did all the baking there. That took us over twelve hours, and honestly wasn't much fun. Now, ten years later, some of us bake our cookies ahead of time, others bake them at whoever's house we are gathered at, we have soup, chili, and sandwiches for lunch, and lots more people come. We've added spouses, significant others, and kids. I invited Justin's girlfriend (he had to work), and she brought 160 cut-out cookies! This is kind of a big deal because nobody else likes to make them, so we are going to try and keep her around. Best of all, my niece moved into a new house and she has a double oven! Now we have plenty of time for baking, visiting, and even eating a few cookies.

I hope you had a sweet weekend, too!

  3. I wish I could participate, I do not like baking cookies at all. Let's be honest, I don't want to be in the kitchen! Looks like you had a wonderful fun filled time!

  9. I wish I could get together to share cookie baking with my family -- but we are WAY too spread out for that. (And, in some cases, that is a Good Thing.) Sounds like Justin's girlfriend is definitely a keeper! (And, by the way, which one is she???)

  10. That's a lot of cookies, Bonnie, and I bet every one of them will be eaten. I don't like making those cut out cookies either, but I really enjoyed doing them when I was young. I got over it, ha ha. I'm glad it was a rousing success! But why wouldn't it be, because chili, cookies, and family!

  14. Really I would tell Justin to hang on to that girl friend who bakes cut out cookies too. Your cookie day looks like lots of fun. We used to do this in my family but the kids have grown up and some moved away. Sounds like a great weekend.

  15. This bings back so many memories of all my sisters and our mother in the kitchen making a production of cookies and candies for the season. My grandmother would join sometimes, too. Your gathering looks like a happy place with a lot of hustle and bustle and laughter thrown in!

  16. Oh Bonny, what a wonderful tradition! I LOVE that you've added all the family (and all those extra folks don't seem to detract from the baking ;-) Extra points for all the photos! and 160 cut-out cookies ... she's a keeper for sure! xxoo.
