The Weekly Loaf

My current weekly loaf came about because of our weather report. On Saturday we had snow and freezing rain, which then turned to rain on Sunday. The doomsday weatherman was predicting 20-40 mph winds with 60 mph gusts on Sunday night into Monday. Since our electricity tends to go out even if there are gentle breezes, I decided I better make some dinner early on Sunday while I still had a stove that worked.

First up was a pot of sausage corn chowder. I always think soup needs bread to go with it, so I ended up making rosemary bread.

It's really just a white bread with rosemary added to the dough but it smelled good and I thought it might taste okay, too. I used this recipe for guidance.

Just make sure you grease your pan completely and don't leave any spots ungreased where the bread might stick and tear.

I will be making another Honey Oat Pain de Mie in my Pullman pan later today, and I will make sure to grease that pan completely. We're visiting Ryan tomorrow and I'd like to take him a decent loaf of bread, one without any tears in the side.

I hope your Monday is off to a good start and the rest of your week improves as we head towards Friday!

  1. Oh my! I LOVE Rosemary bread!! And I was just thinking about corn chowder the other day (I will be making split pea soup today). The winds have been ferocious here...and SO MUCH Rain...I'm over it.

  2. Rosemary bread sounds amazing, Bonny! Yum! (sticking to the pan or not!) These winds are NOT FUN, just saying. Fingers crossed your power (nor mine) does not go out!

  3. Chowder and fresh-baked bread sounds like the perfect meal for a cold day! I have a feeling the tear in that loaf ended up being a non-issue and you gobbled it up no matter what it looked like! I hope your power stays on. We've had similar weather (snow to rain, rain to snow), and it'd be awful to be cold inside.

  5. I love corn chowder but I've never made a decent one. It's either too crunchy or bland. Yours looks perfect.

  7. The bread and soup look delicious. That little tear in the side of the loaf just means the bread is homemade with love.

  8. I love rosemary! You didn't say, so did you like it? We have had horrendous weather this past week, and arctic temps and snow are coming tonight. WTH?! I am so over this winter. Today I am going to be painting. Home projects are keeping me busy and tired, and this is a good thing. I need to find time to make some soup for the next few days.

  9. What a perfect yuck-weather dinner -- with yum-bread to accompany it! Was it as tasty as it looked? And did you manage to keep your power throughout the storm? (Inquiring minds want to know. . . )
