Another Trip to the River

This past weekend was sticky and humid on Saturday, but Sunday was picture-perfect with blue skies, puffy clouds, and a lovely breeze. It was just right for a trip to the Delaware River. I don't fish very often so it doesn't make sense for me to buy a fishing license, but I do know how to occupy myself beside the gently flowing waters (and a lot of that seems to be taking photos).

The fisherpeople prepared their equipment.

John waded in the water.

I came across some interesting stumps,

an extensive patch of ferns,

some heart-shaped leaves,

and lots of phlox.

I built some multi-material cairns,

and took a short walk to the nearby quarry pond for more lovely views.

I personally think the river is almost more interesting if you aren't fishing.

Hope your weekend was also a good one!

    1. Thanks, Katie! It was a lovely day and I'm sure I'll be back at the river many times this summer. It has quickly become one of my new favorite places!

  4. This looks like the perfect way to spend a Sunday. Some of my best memories are of being in the boat with my dad when I was a kid. He fished, I supposedly fished, but mostly just enjoyed the day and his company. I wish I could get my hands on some of those river rocks! I like your cairns! It has been very hot and humid here for the last week, but today the tropical storm is going to bring us rain, so it should cool off quite a bit. I hope you have a great Monday, Bonny.

  8. Looks like everyone had a fun time! I like your little cairns Bonny - and the fact that they not not JUST stone. Very pretty. Sunday was such an ideal day - glad you could get out!

  9. What gorgeous pictures. I think it was free fishing in Wisconsin this weekend. I rode my electric assist bike 23 miles with my husband's bike group. I was in the peloton! LOL

  11. What a wonderful day! We had big walks both mornings and a big, big deer jump out in front of us on Saturday. That was a treat!

  12. I always think it's the essence of fishing . . . rather than the actual fishing . . . that brings peace and contentment. I'm so glad you were able to spend such a pleasant day at the river. XO

  13. I would have to agree with you that the river is more interesting without fishing. What a wonderful day outdoors. Thanks for the beautiful photos.
