Three on Thursday

Joining Kat and Carole for Three on Thursday.

Every morning while I'm having my morning tea, I ask myself that eternal question, "What the heck should I make for dinner tonight?" I've been in a soup sort of mood, so here are three soups that I considered for dinner.

Corn and Cheese Chowder
I like almost everything The Pioneer Woman makes, and this one had the added benefit that I have all the ingredients. It was a serious contender.

Sherried Tomato Soup
I found this one while I was perusing The Pioneer Woman's website, and I could almost taste a delicious dinner of homemade tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. Drawbacks were that I would have to go to the grocery store for diced tomatoes and sherry.

Split Pea Soup with Sausage
This recipe sounded intriguing. I always make split pea soup after I make a ham, but to be honest, I just barely tolerate ham after the childhood trauma of being made to sit at the kitchen table until bedtime because I couldn't/wouldn't finish my awful slice of ham. I used the "spit it into a napkin" trick more than once and my mother pretended not to notice. Split pea soup without ham might open up a whole new world for me.

And the winner was ...

Split Pea Soup with Sausage! Easy, delicious, and no one was forced to sit at the kitchen table until bedtime.

Head on over here to read more Three on Thursday posts.

  1. I always love it when you share recipes! I have diced tomatoes and sherry so immediately clicked the tomato soup recipe ... sadly, I do not have any heavy cream :-) but I think I might be tempted to buy some. (along with bread to make toasted cheese sandwiches)

  3. Thank you! From the bottom of my heart. Because, this is the question that I detest that comes every day with great regularity from Steve. The bane of my existence is the eternal question of "what's for dinner"

I will do this next week and give you some ideas for "whats for dinner" these recipes look amazing! Thank you again!

  5. I've already printed out the split pea with sausage recipe and the sherried tomato recipe - sounds delicious (though I do like it with ham too). Do you like shrimp? And curry? if so, I have a wonderful curried shrimp soup recipe that's easy and delicious!! Thanks for sharing.

  6. This is the perfect time of year for soup. I'd go with the tomato even if it means a run to the store. ALWAYS eat the tomato soup!!! LOL

  7. Thank you! These all sound so good. I'm off to the grocery store this morning and I will probably pick up ingredients for the split pea & sausage soup...or maybe the tomato...or maybe both!

  11. What a timely post, Bonny. I fixed tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches last night for supper. My husband was feeling under the weather, and it was a perfect meal for both of us. I have been making soup at least once a week since the weather got cold. We have had homemade chicken made with stock I made from a rotisserie chicken. It was very good, and I froze some of it. We had homemade turkey, made just as the chicken, from homemade stock from a holiday turkey. I also made homemade mushroom from a NYT's recipe, and it is very good. I think having recipe reviews on here is a great idea. The bane of every woman's existence is the daily, "what's for dinner?" or "what am I going to make for dinner?" I have never made split pea, so this may get me going in that direction. A little help in the idea department is always appreciated!

    1. Thank you for your help in the "what's for dinner?" department! With the cold weather returning, I've been thinking about soup for the coming weeks, and chicken and turkey are on my list. I hadn't considered mushroom, but that also sounds quite delicious. I rarely know what to write about on Tuesdays, but it may become "what's for dinner?" day! Thanks for your great ideas; we're all in this dinner dilemma together!

  16. Split pea soup is a favorite! When we lived in California, it was a treat to go to "Pea Soup Andersen's" in Buellton for a bowl of delicious soup & their fantastic vanilla milkshake. The last time we were in the area on vacation (2009), we made sure to stop there for lunch and it was just as good as we all remembered.
