Unraveled Wednesday

Joining Kat and friends for Unraveled Wednesday.

I finished some knitting, but there are still important details to complete before it's really done. While I work on those, I decided to take a look into some mystery project bags.

In Penguin Bag #1 there are some socks for my sister. I promised them for her birthday (but I didn't say which one). Let's just say it was an embarrassingly long time ago.

Deer Bag #2 has the No Regrets Hitchhiker I put on the back burner for a new Hitchhiker.

I found my Serena Socks in Barn Owl Bag #3.

No Regrets and the Serena Socks are good waiting room knitting, and I'll need the patience they instill during hours of waiting scheduled for next week, so I think I'll work on socks for my sister now.

My reading has included the last several books I'm finishing for Book Bingo, but they just weren't providing the calm and peace I've needed after all the chaos of the past several weeks. When I feel like this, E. B. White is the writer I turn to, so I'm finding the solace, perspective, and achingly beautiful prose I crave in The Essays of E.B. White.

What are you knitting and reading this week? Whatever you're working on, I hope it's providing you with lots of what you need.

  1. I think I have a few project bags that I should do the same with... as in get them out, figure out where I am and finish projects. But, rather, I am heading off to read a little E.B. White. Thanks for the inspiration!

  2. I love project bags! I was just on etsy yesterday looking and looking. Love your projects and the way each project is different for any knitting mood you might be in.

  3. I love The Essays of E. B. White and have read them many times over the years...they always seem to help me focus on what is good and right in the world.

  4. Socks are great waiting room knitting and you are SO close on those ones for your sister. I bet you will have them done soon. And a cover all, too!

  5. Love your Barn Owl bag - so cute! Nice projects (and yarn) as well. E. B. White always makes sense and his words calm and quiet me.

  6. No new knitting, but reading a new book, Before We Were Yours, based on a local orphanage scandal in the middle of the last century that involved stealing babies and then selling them to rich clients. I was really interested in this story because of its local ties, and it has turned out to be a readable book. I am going to have to look up some E. B. White if it is soothing and focuses on the good. We all need some of that lately. If you haven't watched the Vice News segment on Charlottesville, you should. It is appalling and only 22 minutes long. It's good to know your enemies and what they are about. They are more despicable than I could imagine. Love your project bags. Aren't you organized!

    1. I've loved everything I've read by E.B. White -- his essays, New Yorker pieces, and his children's books (especially Charlotte's Web). Those bags just give a false pretense; if you had seen the mess I dug them out of in my closet you would know there was no organization!

  7. I'd like to finish another pair of socks this month, so will also be perusing my knitting bags. I look forward to sharing what I find.

And in the meantime, I wish you peace of mind and calmness of spirit!

    1. Sock knitting (especially several pair in a month) is good! E.B. White, some sock knitting, and a break from the news are contributing to peace and calmness in my world right now.

  8. E.B. White is such a soothing read. Excellent choice! Especially with some socks on the side. XO

  9. My favorite knitting is socks, which I haven't done lately due to some arthritis issues, including a "tennis elbow" in the non-dominant arm, of all things. But reading, I've got two science fiction books going - my summer has been just lazy with an over abundance of them - one right now is "The Rise and Fall of D.O.D.O." By Neal Stephenson. To balance that out I have "Bad Feminist" by Roxane Gay. I've not read her before but seems promising. The calm part of my reading is a fiction YA book about an English family in India around the time of Gandhi, a completely calm person and a nice opposite of the news today, thank goodness.

    1. I hope your arthritis and tennis elbow improve so you can do some knitting. Neal Stephenson sounds like an ambitious read. I tried to read Cryptonomicon several times and have never gotten too far. I had to take a break from the news to really restore some internal peace and quiet.

  10. Putting the mind into something positive is a great way escape. E.B. White would be just the right ticket! I am in need of a new sock project to fill my cute bag. Hope all goes well for you next week. Waiting rooms can be so tiring and one needs good distractions.
