Looking for Focus

I wasn't going to write a One Little Word post today, mainly because I have been such a failure at Focus. I have left my poor little word sitting by the wayside. I have no focus. Sometimes not even enough to know what day it is, since each day is just like the others preceding it, and all I can see is more misery and climbing numbers in the days ahead.

This is how I have treated poor Focus. I think I have been waiting for it to magically return instead of making a concerted effort to focus even a little bit, on Focus. After reading your One Little Word posts this morning I've been inspired by your efforts, struggles, and honesty in dealing with your own words.

So thank you. Starting right now, I'm going to make a return to Focus. It may be just a little, but I am making the effort. Today is Tuesday. I am going to focus on meditation, mopping the kitchen floor, holding those dear to me along with some good friends close to my heart and in my thoughts, taking a walk even though the weather is poor, and maybe even some knitting tonight. That is enough for now. It will have to be because it's all I've got.

Now, please go visit HonorĂ© and see how others are doing.

  1. That is plenty Bonny! Don't be hard on yourself. These be weird times for sure and I'm surprised anyone has any focus at all! Fletch and I ran out for some groceries this morning and on the way home he said it feels like Sunday (when we usually grocery shop). I said, honestly each day is the same as the others. I have no clue what day it is!

  2. It's more than enough - it's just right! I'm proud of you for seeking ways to find your focus again.

  3. I am gradually starting to feel like I'm finding my way again ... reading everyone's posts today is reminding me just how helpful the OLW practice is (especially with the monthly check-in) and how kind, thoughtful and generous this community is. Honestly, I think the best thing right now is to show up as ourselves. (and if you have toilet photos to share that make me smile, all the better). hugs!!

  4. Every.single.word of this is exactly where I am, Bonny. I will be holding you and your close in thought and sending you all the focused juju I can! :)

  5. Being retired it is hard to know what day of the week it is. The one thing that 'reset' our week so I could figure out the day was the get-together of a group of friends on Saturday mornings at a local diner. Yeah, you know that hasn't been happening. I'm one of the 'young' ones and I'm mid-60's! So I get the lack of 'focus'. :)

    1. I have been so unfocused, Helen (just like almost everyone else). I have at least decided to put forth some effort, and that is making me feel better, if just a tiny bit more focused. Stay well!

  6. I absolutely love the visual, Bonny. It's perfect! I think most of us have had to abandon a normal schedule, even if we are retired. That really makes it hard to keep up with what day it is. I think you have perfectly described how all of us are feeling. Good luck with your focus!

  7. I think focusing on focus is difficult during these times. I am trying my best to reset each day only to slip up at some point and waste time on the internet (news...). however each and every day I get a little better at adjusting to shock and dismay. I hope you focus better and if not now some hour of some part of your day!

  8. In my own experience with having "one little word" for the year . . . well. I usually learn more about myself when the word is hard. And when things don't go quite the way I think they're going to go. When I open myself up to what I need to do to get it back. Ultimately, finding meaning through "failure" (or . . . just a really shitty time) makes me stronger. Having a word each year doesn't mean "success" . . . it means finding out new things about yourself via some touchstone (in this case, a word).

Be gentle with yourself, Bonny. XOXO

  9. I honestly don't know how anyone can focus on much of anything right now, so I'm not surprised that you've been struggling. But don't be hard on yourself -- when you picked this word, you couldn't have anticipated a global pandemic and all the anxiety associated with it. Do your best to focus but don't be upset if it's difficult. It's more important to take care of yourself.

  10. Don't be too hard on yourself. This is a very odd time - to say the least. I find I really have to choose one or two things to accomplish during the day or I wander around between the computer, my phone, and the kitchen. And I completely forgot about the "one little word" thing this month. Take good care of you and yours. That might be focus enough for these days.

  11. And, here am I on Friday as I can't focus long enough to keep reading blogs. I heard someone say it is important to know the day of the week and the day of the month. We must stay focused on the basics as we are in a state of uncertainty. I see what he meant, we need to have some discipline, but, for me, I think we can enjoy the freedom of not knowing. Nature is where my focus is. The beauty of spring has me focused on it rather than myself. xo
